My Tusken Raider "Chronicles" Costume

I just posted these pics on the Tusken mask showoff thread on the prop forum, but I've never made a full costume until now and I wanted to post it here too.

It features my scratch-built mask and respirator and original enfield bandoliers. I got the Totokia ages ago from Tom Spina who had it shipped it over from from Fiji. The mace end of the totokia has a steel tube, but I had to fabricate the spike and fins out of wood and plastic because no one is making the maces in metal right now.

Adam's Tusken masks are hands down the best you can buy. Here's a few pics of my Tusken with one of his kits that I built up.

Your costumes look really good. I like seeing them all in one place like this.

I think my robe needs a bit more grey in the dye bath and just a touch of weathering. I don't really like weathering for the sake of weathering, and the Chronicles costume was fairly understated in that regard. It does need something more, though. The one thing that I actually regret not weathering before I took the photos are the gloves.

i've found that handling my totokia dirties up the gloves on its own. i'm not sure if mine is something strange or what, but it rubs off black a bit if i hold it for a long time.

as for weathering, i think it's really just too... crisp... looking. it doesn't have the natural distressing that fabric gets from being treated poorly.

my mask is partially a godzilla, but i swapped out the latex base for plastic, since it was just too heavy and hot to wear for long periods.

Beautiful, impressive work!:cool

Amazing costume. But while your in that desert you need to role around in the dirt. :)

Thanks for the comments, guys.

I'm still going to do some very subtle weathering. It's a pretty specific replica and I don't want to dirty it up just to fill expectations as a costume. I think getting a shade more grey in the robe is going to do a lot to get it to look "right". I think the way the color of the robes is brighter than the sand is the primary reason why it immediately reads as too clean.

The robe on the Chronicles costume is either the same or the sister garment of the one in the Lucafilm archives, and that one is surprisingly clean aside from the physically frayed edges on the bottom. Some things in the Star Wars universe are indeed heavily weathered, but some are more heavily weathered in our imaginations. It's been something I've struggled with on this piece for sure.
