So, tomorrow I'm going to Comicpalooza in Houston and this is my first convention where I'll be cosplaying. There were two things that I did not want to do:
1) Go as a generic character and have 30 other versions of my cosplay walking around and 2) be wearing just a spandex suit. While a lot of people won't like the tacticool approach, I think SpOck's costume was sort of leaning in that direction with the gauntlets and treads on the shoes. You just can't go too far without making it not Spidey anymore. Great thing about this is that I have pockets. And, there are going to be some who disagree with me, but I don't think every costume can be perfectly translated from the comics to real life without looking silly. I mean, I think the only reason Amazing Spider-man works is because of the raised webbing and lenses. Because the Superior costume is mostly black, it looks awkward in my opinion when just printed on the spandex.
About making this costume. I ordered this costume before I learned about those zentai sites stealing designs. I did, however, contact Orhadar when I learned all that and I paid him for the pattern, so I sort of feel like it evens out, even though my purchase did benefit that dishonest company. The lenses were done by someone I know who does Spidey costumes and the gauntlet, communicator, whatever things are wrist guards (that came with the elbow and knee pads) painted. It does bother me that the black is not nearly black enough. Navy blue, really, but you think it's black if you're more than a foot away. I tried to fix it by wearing a black long sleeve underneath, but it doesn't work. Oh well, after all the money spent putting the costume together, I'm still wearing it and I'm sure people will still like it.
I haven't found many Superior cosplays online, so please feel free to share any images you might have of this cosplay because I really loved the series and I want to see more of this cosplay.
