Now that my collection reached a size that I deem respectable, I feel more comfortable to share some pictures of it with other fellow collectors.
To tell the short version of how I came to collect prop replicas, it pretty much all started when I first found these boards. That was in 2009, around Watchmen's release in theaters and I was kinda desperate to find references of a newspaper that was featured in the movie (the Newfrontiersman) and even though I never completed what should have been my first project, what I found on these boards over years of browsing was so much more valuable.
I came to discover (well much like rediscover) movies like Indiana Jones or BTTF with a totally different angle, film which became really, really important for me and my family, I met friendly, helpfull people which spared no efforts to introduce me to this hobby, to help me gather together some of the most wonderful items I've ever seen, things I thought I'd simply never get.
I had this talk with my brother in law a couple of days ago. He's part of this vast majority of people who doesn't get the point to get prop replicas from a movie. I tried to explain him why I put so much effort and money in this hobby. I think it all comes from the way I actually watch a movie. They're like journeys, stories that make you travel to exotic countries, outer space locations beyond your imagination, that make you meet billionaires with their suit of armor, time-travelling teenagers from the 80's and their hoverboards, dream robbers, super soldiers, charming and deadly spies, archeologists from the past, cops from the future ... and getting items from these stories is pretty much like getting a souvenir from and actual trip. It's just a way to remind you of the good time you spent watching these films, sharing the experience with people you like and talking endlessly about them.
Anyways long story short, as for explaining the name that is attached to this thread, I use to collect rare ancient books as well as prop replicas, and when I bought SSkunky's CFO V for Vendetta mask, before I received the custom made stand, I just putted it on a shelf in the middle of my books. One day I had a visit from my cousin and she told me something like: "Cool, now you have you're own Shadow Gallery !" and the name just sticked until today.
There's a lot of pictures coming, any comment, or ideas of any kind are of course very welcome.
