About 20 years ago I was into doing models and mainly kit things. I remember had always be fascinated with the Sandcrawler since I first saw it at the movies. I found these images of a wall mounted " bust " i did back then. It never survived. I ended up doing three of them total. I gave the other two away to close friends. I even went as far as going to a trophy shop and getting plaques made with their names and my name on them.
They where made out of foam core as the base and then I layered random cut " plating' from garage sale signs all over it. I remember doing hundreds of them for each it seemed. I weathered it very heavy and threw dirt and anything else to make it nasty. I put lift up window covers on each window as well. Not sure where that idea came from. They where fairly large as well but lightweight.
My late father was into Hunting back then , So I assume that I took a page out of his Deer mountings in the house. I think I was around 19-20 years old.
I found the images while I was collecting reference for the planning of my own studio scale Sandcrawler , as I have more money now to invest in the kits. While I'm not under any illusion about the task , I look forward to the challenge it brings. I am drawn to the larger items now more than anything.
anywho. I just wanted to share some ' blast from the past" for my fellow Star Wars fans. I like looking back to remember where I came from . Plus I thought it would give you guys a smile.
