My Rendition of Gambit's Armor/Costume

I'm currently making a costume for an event this coming October 31, 2013. And I decided to make a Gambit costume because I am somewhat good in handling cards - I am a magician. :)

I really don't know how to start this project so I started to search for costume making tutorials. I found out what EVA foam was and Pepakura designer too! But there was no Pep files for Gambit! So I went ahead and made my costume basing it only from photos that I found on the internet! :)

Made my drawings in paper then made templates to "manila paper" - a yellow colored paper usually found here in the Philippines.

So here are the pictures of my current costume! Ü

Here is where my costume was based.

(I want to personally thank "B-rad", a digital artist. I found his work on the internet. you find him here: Image|Plane)

DSC02160.JPG - This is where I stared! But I decided to scrap it and tinker with it again.
DSC02161.JPG - This is the result of experimenting on the EVA foam! :D

DSC02164.JPG - Fitting
DSC02167.JPG - Adding the "half-pipe" on the collar and bottom portion of the armor. (This was very difficult to do! :wacko)
DSC02168.JPGDSC02169.JPGDSC02170.JPG - Had to make templates for the shoes again! It took me a day to figure out how to make the boots! But I was really happy with the result! :)

I will be posting more photos as I progress with this project! Thanks guys! :)

I really like the effect on the armor.

If you don't mind, how did you get that imprint on the armor? Do you have a writeup?

Awesome job.

Wow, that chest piece came out epic, very well done. I too would like to know a little more about hwo you got such a cool effect!

Looks great so far, can't wait to see the rest.

Thanks! Really appreciate it! :)

Thanks! It was a lot of work! Took me a day to figure it out! I'm still thinking about if I would teach the technique that I used. :)

Will be doing the final pieces for this costume - the thigh part.

And then the next step is to coat the armors with PVA glue, then have it air brushed by my friend! :)

Taking a guess here - is that a thinner layer of EVA foam heatformed over the underlayer? Looks pretty damned nice anyway. Cool effect!

That is what I was thinking.
If so I have a new way to make Sayian armor. :)
I have to give it a shot just to make sure.

nice work on the chest! it looks like you heat formed some eva over the first images chest judging by the rounded edges of the form! mustve been pretty hard to keep it all so well formed and in the right position

I love the look and it turned out very well. Are you planning on reinforcing any of it or is this going to be all a secret and we'll just watch for pics?
