My Red Hood Build ;) Getting close to done!!

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

dude looking sweet, the red looks a good choice.
Halfords in Uk have a huge selection of car sprays, I'm going with a red primer or Vauxhall red( maroony red) going for a matt/silk finish. Look forward to updates over the next few days. shibby

The notch was put there to assist in easily aligning the parts of the helmet. I'm going to leave the notch in, but when I put the accent into the separation line I'm going to pull it straight across the back so it would appear to be just a straight line and the notch itself will flush up with the back of the helm. I plan to do a,"V", cut into the sides of the line for a distinguishing accent, but not too pronounced. I will make from the beginning of the "V" to the inside black so the line can be seen from a bit of a distance... And thats my plan. I've already took off about another pound of pink dust, but everything is getting smooth and lining up. I've also set up the final build up for the fitting for the major part of the sides... Just a few more steps till a paint test ;)

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

If you're looking for a little more exotic paint Testors makes a red metal flake spray for models.
Testors » Testors » Enamel Paints » Paints » Red Metal Flake

I haven't used the red, but I have used the blue and it came out gorgeous. A real nice royal blue with nice flake coverage.

This is probably more accurate though, a nice pearlescent red. Not as good as if it were sprayed with a gun or an airbrush in mutliple coats with flake added, but totally worth the money imo, particularly for this mask.

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

Ok, so here we are ;). I've made a few corrections, and it appears i think i might have got it. I've gone through several more steps to correct my line issue, and its paid off. I have finally gotten my lines to where i was hoping to get them, and i also think ive finally gotten the faceplate correct. I thought two days ago i did my final spot fill, but now i will need to do it again ;(. Before i started any more filling and sanding i needed to take more pics to share. Please let me know what you all think.

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

I think it it looks terrific as of the last set of pictures. How is your field of vision with the eyes spaced so far apart?

Shendorion - Actually it is really open once i took out the eye plates. If you look out the eye holes, it covers your entire field of view. I might widen mine just a touch and then you wouldn't even see that your wearing anything, you would expect it to be blinding with that space between the eyes, but its almost perfect. I'm planning to try to get some special lenses made for this from a local optometrist's or whomever cuts the lenses for their glasses... i've never tried something so large before so im not sure how much luck ill have. I just figured it might be cool to get those self tinting lenses or maybe a custom polarized set. Wish me luck ;)

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

looking really good dude, looking forward to finished result.
I'm having sanding problems with mine, pits are coming out in some area's and some area's are smooth, any advice? i put a help please on my thread

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

Looks really good and smooth! I really like it a lot! I'm not sure if you've seen Mcoatsey's lense setup but maybe you can ask him how he got his? It might give you an idea. I have looked at smoked plexy glass for other helmets that I've done but never tried it. I have also looked at a black screen mesh type material which you may try but I've also never tried it. Like I said......Your really doing a great job can't wait to see finished helmet!

Mcoatsey - don't get discouraged, I had the same problems with my first pep builds. It helps with asking questions, experience and trial and error. Your file is looking great also! Both keep up the good work. :)

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

the lenses are just from a £10 pair of mirrored aviators I got off play.com and using black craft foam sheeting £0.50 each A4, I'll find my eye templates as I did them freehand using the anime pics and statue as ref:, made templates for the leveling(see album pic) I've had to cut the lense down, still keeping the RedHood eye shape, because of the curvature of the lenses it should make it easier when fitting , I have to recut some more foam aswell.
thanks again for the advice you guys gave me

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

Hi
this is how I designed my eye's , hope the templates help, I've put the measurements on and will attach to my album so you can see a bigger picture

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

Ok, one step farther and im dying to share. First off i noticed when i was looking through my last pictures that my eye sockets where a bit off still so I corrected that first (i know there is still a bit more work needed on the eyes, but i was in the mood to move forward ;) ). So we get to here.

Then i put a coat of automotive primer on to help fill some small spots, but dont ever expect primer to really cover any issue. I use it mostly b/c after i prime it, i put it under a light and then i can really see all the imperfections a lot easier. So this is even my second time to do this, but after the first time was when i realized i needed to make a few symmetry corrections. I always have the bubble issue with Bondo , so i always use plenty of glazing puddy as you can see below. Everything you see in red is glazing puddy to fill some form of an issue... i hope this doesn't make me look too O.C.D. ;). I really like things to be close to perfect.... my therapist tells me that no one can be perfect so we just need to strive to get as close as we can. ;)... (that's really just a joke).

And i also started on the "V" shaped cut at the demarcation line. Ive gotten past preliminary sanding after these shots, but i've got to run out for a few min to work :(, but i will be back and have more updates and pics later tonight... im hoping to maybe get a paint test tonight...

Andrew

P.S. Mcoatsey, thanks for the eye mock-up... ill have to check that possibility out, and just PM me if you ever need something in a hurry... im a bit new at this myself, but ive been reading for months and always willing to help if i can.

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

hey awesome dude, nothing wrong with OCD, my girlfriend thinks I'm funny at how excited I am with this project. Here's the new foam cut, the lense were trimmed and guegunned, the cut is so it fits and glues well to inside of eye socket. before doing layers of foam (when i tested it) because of the curvature of the lenses full size it didn't fit right. So just one sheet now, i will paint the foam a silk black acrylic paint. keep up the good work dude

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

Looks awesome. I'm starting a Red Hood helmet as well. I am using Blackkaos's second version however. Both version files are awesome. Your build makes me want to work harder and faster to finish lol. I have to remake mine though cuz I scaled it up cuz I thought my head would be too big lol. Now the helmet is too big :/

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

Its pretty bad when I have to constantly check for updates because I'm really excited to see more progress and can't do any of the files my self because I'm waiting on printer ink...sucks! Lol. The progress pics look awesome! Keep it up.

Dabiddabird- send me progress pics when you get them and let me know how you like the file.

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

Another set of update pics for BlackKaos ;). Ok, after more pink and red dust i came up to this. There is still are plenty of flaws I found after my first coat of paint (but those pics will come later). This is how it looked before i tried to paint it ;)

On top of several more minor issues to take care of my paint color looks good, but my skills are lacking ;). If anyone knows of a good painting thread please let me know. Im going to fix my other issues and try to read up some more to figure out how to make this paint look perfect, and hoping to get some more pics up for you all really soon. The closer i get to finishing this the more excited im getting also ;). - Andrew

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

Looks better and better everytime I see it. What color red are you going to use?

Re: My Red Hood Build ;) More Pictures Added.

cool all looking awesome, I used the puddy(putty stuff over here in UK) got my eyes sanded now, unfortunately when I finish sanding tonight the primer with filler is supposed to be left for 24hrs, don't they know I have OCD with this project
