I was off for a week for Christmas, Just finished her. Althought the details and some geometry are different than the 5 footer, I tried to match the detailing and paint without doing a total re-work. Oh, this is the CC x-wing
Hope ya like
Dean

:eek

That is the best paint job I've seen so far on one of these. Wow.

:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

thats amazing man. whered you find the pics of the 5 ft model? i would like to do red 3 myself, pics of that one is hard to find.

As it goes Jerry the most common pics are of the big X wing Red3. I have a ton of them.
That as usual is a sick sick sick paint job, utterly superb Dean, what makes it trickier is a lot of the panel areas on the large model dont match the mini prop, but man you have replicated it in wicked style.

Really? i had no idea, i thought the most common one was red 2. I wanted to do red3 because all of the others with the exception of red4 and 6 were being done to death i guess.
again great job Dean.

Dean,
Your weathering never ceases to amaze me. You don't happen to have a tutorial available anywhere do you? I would really like to see how you achieve that type of look.

Hey Dean, if that's the kit I sold you, it obviously went to a far better home. :D

Outstanding. I like your mount, too...

Outstanding work, Dean.

Keep in mind this is not the standard Red 3.

The "canon" Red 3 in 1/24 scale is the one seen in the Art of Star Wars book, but this does not represent that one. This model relects the larger scale Red 3 (with a different weathering pattern) that is seen on the MoM museum tour (hence large numbers of ref pics).

Ironically, it apparently never saw screen time. It was built for a seen in ROTJ (or was it ESB?) that didn't make it to the final print.

Exactly Rob, this large beastie that Deans CC depicts didnt make the screen, it had a moving puppet figure from what i read in sculpting. The 1/24 red 3 is a lot different in paintwork.
I see what your saying Jerry red 2 is the most screen used mini, there are shots with several of them in flight together, some shots in the movie even depict Luke sitting in one, do the freeze frame thing, youll be surprised at how much the red 2 model is used in the DS attack.

I'll add to the chorus of WOWs.

I'm particularly impressed with the pilot figure - looks just like Mark Hamill. How'd you do that?

Very nice.

Intersteing. Didn't know that.

Me either Rob, was going googly eyed searching for red 1 ref and was astonished by the blatant overuse of red 2 lol.

Those Red 2's are the CG ones created for the SPED release. You'll notivce that the R2 unit is blue instead of the red that the physical model has. Go to the unaltered dvd release for the filming models. Still they usually don't match the ships very well.

My favorite is the stick versions they used in the trench run. It has sticks for guns and one wing upside down on the top right.

It's funny, just about all of the X-wings done by members here are more film worthy than the originals. :)
