My R. Cooper Sandcrawler in progress

Wha- wait, no, what-- no yellow?! :confused

Seriously, not sure why, but the yellow weathering was always my favorite detail. When I had to texture one of these (oy), it was the last bit I did and didn't look right to me til I had it on... so I must protest this build!

No, I'm really not that harsh... very solid, and in context with the Jawa it's a great display piece. Congrats on the build up.

Love it Dave! Great work! The extra details you added really make it come alive.

I just looked through the whole thread and can't see what you used for the basecoat. It might not help mine, but if it's an off the shelf color it would help when I build it. Looks like you nailed the color.

Tamiya NATO Brown was the basecoat. And because it's a satin "chocolate brown" it looks like a huge Hershey's Chocolate Sandcrawler when that goes on. Seriously, I had to go buy a bag of halloween chocolates to calm my nerves...........LOL

ROTFL :lol Now, that is a quote worth saving. Fantastic work, Dave! You are inspiring me to get back to work on my SS crawler project. I finally have all the tracks, wheels, and suspension parts needed to build one of these beasts full size. So many projects, so little time. . . :eek

Got my paint in. Jumped right on brightening the rust up on my SC. I'm pretty happy with the color and results. Looks way better than the typical red rust colors.

It's sad, me being the "expert modeler" and having a time finding the right rust color.........my daughter overhears this and looks at my chronicles and other reference pix, goes to her "watercolor" paint set and waltzes over and says, this is the color you want. Guess what, she put me in my place......LOL. She nailed it. Glad my 14 yr old could bail me out!!!

Dave :)

I'm guessing they probably used mostly the same paints for all the models, as that color looks exactly like floquil rust. It has way more of an orange color than other rust colored paints I've seen and it's used a good bit on the Falcon.
