My Predator Build! A trail & Error

If this is just a base to mould over and not the actual mask you could fill it with expanding foam. Iv currently doing this for a friends clone trooper armour as the pepakure files where not acurate but a good starting piont then used car body filler to get the shape I wanted strait on top of the paper. iv done this a few times before snd has worked well for me as a light weight base. if the paper mask is part of your finnished mask then ignore everything iv just said
I'VE juSt got some epoxy from halfords just to let me crack on with the sculpting. I'm torn between waiting for my navant nsp medium to arrive and use that so I don't have to worry about the drying out etc. What would you do? My other option is just to use my air dry to try and get a feel for sculpting - practice makes perfect after All.

Either way I'll need to epoxy the mask so I can be a bit rougher with it.

If you are new to sculpting I would practice a bit. You can experiment with texturing and the tools you are using. You should, if you haven't already, get yourself some sculpting tools. But you will find that you can use almost anything to sculpt with. Start simple and progress to more complex stuff.
Try experimenting with cloths for textures too.

Cheers for the advice dude. I did some small bits about 15 years ago so hopefully a chance to teach myself again.

I have three pepurka bios made, so I can practice on a evening with them. Not worried about messing them up. As practice makes perfect.

I have the tools :) and the will

I have some left over clay, might do the same and make a nice display bio or something You are inspiring me lol
And that's what this site is about for me ! Inspiring me to do it when I see others great work! ! Fibre glass is drying it might need another coat. I say fibre glass its the liquid minus the fibre strips.

Test.... lol

If you are just using it as a sculpting base the resin is all you will need. The fibreglass is mostly for reinforcing wearable pieces.

So test one

This has tough me to get the pep better, I thought with the basic Shap I could sort it out. But my eyes are wrong and they where on the pep.

So after that little experiment I realized I can make a bio helmet? But a face may be beyond me.

Now in the market for a mask

Dont give up on trying to make a face yet, you dont know until you try, you never know you might be good at it. Half of the fun is seeing if you can do something and you learn wile your trying and there is always more satisfaction when its all your own work.

It takes 20 hours of practice to become good at a skill, but 20,000 hours to become an expert. (about 5 years worth of practice) So don't give up. But like Wreav said, you need to have reference images when you are working. Start out with basic shapes, like you would when drawing, and add in the detail. For the Bio I would use a plain bio for the template. a regular P1 style bio and add your own details, rather than using a fancy bio and adding even more details on top of that.

Cheers for the response's guys! I 5hink my course of action will be buy a decent latex mask, while I practice making it. So I will at least have some thing I can wear out that.

I can then start clocking up some practice time on the sculpt. I'm fairly confident I will be able to pull the bio off. Especially using the advice of a p1 as a starting.

I have my reference pictures at my dad's but I'm doing this in my barracks.
I definatly need this nsp medium so I don't have to worry as much about cracking.

Small steps, trail and error leads to bigger and better things.
:D There are great UK/IRE sellers of masks. Contact them via here of social media. :

Do you flog masks?

cheers for 5he tips :)

So a decisions has been made.

Not to carry on with my build, During the week.Due to not having the right places to work ie a desk & space. I am not comfortable working so my output is suffering.
I will leave it to weekends but unfortunately that means every other weekend when i go home. So this is going to take a lot longer than i hoped. But i am hoping the finished result will be better. I don't wanna rush, I want to have a finished result im happy with.

Now if anyone knows next week euro millions numbers give us a shout :)

I know the feeling, I can only work on some parts when the weather is nice, which it thankfully is getting pretty good now. But remember you can find other bits to work on when you can't work on big bits/waiting on weather. I personally have about 6 bits going at once.

About the Euro millions... I have already got dibs on that... maybe next time :p

So any preferences? I'm trying to make a mask that clips on the bio, with magents. A sort of ceremonial piece to wear after combat.,

To be honest i think im going to have it less "big" and closer tothe mask

Bones from eBay mate, just let me know if you go for any as im pretty active on them atm don't wanna bid you up!

Unsure weather to paint the bones, or keep them natural.

Currently spraying my mask so ill see what they look like after. Pics tomorrow

Don't worry I'm not buying anything at the moment. Infact i'm saving up because I'll be out of the UK for a month. To track Boars and what not. Customs don't allow bones to be transported back to the UK so I failed with that thought. Bones should be normal with a hint of brown or black/etc to symbolise decay. Nothing can be too sleek and new. It defeats the purpose of being a seasoned vetran pred or a hunter pred.
Unless he wants to keep his bone trophys clean and pride of place! Obv going with the battle hardened bio so il see what it looks like

So I tried two paints today first attempt was a weathered look, it came out all right but then I thought this is a custom build - do as I please. Just need a custom helmet then can paint this on to it. Thus will do for now though
