So its begun...My Breaking Bad Hank ID is on eBay now...The frustration comes from knowing that its probably someone from the RPF...Does anyone know who this guy is??? Seems he's been selling IDs on eBay for a while. Also does this fall into the realm of an item I can flag and get removed??? Any help would be great as I just got a nice card printer to start selling my IDs.

Thanks
- Chris

There's not a lot you can do honestly. As frustrating as it is, since you do not own any copyright over the character or elements used in this ID, even if the layout is yours you are screwed.

Now one thing we tried with a couple of folks in these boards, last time one of this things happened, is to hit him where it hurts, that means targeting his ebay feedbacks.
You can buy the item, then refuse to pay for it and leave a negative feedback stating that this design is yours and that it's available for free on the RPF.

It's not the ultimate weapon but it might hurt a bit (maybe enough to have him remove the listings).

Thanks for the recommendation! If it comes to that, then I'll go for it, but in the interim, I think I've decided to just hit him where it really hurts and sell the same ID on eBay for WAYYYYY LESS...I'm only making these available so that people that don't have the means to print them out still have an option...Those members here that got the ID for free and can print it, more power to 'em!

Welcome to the club Chris,

this guy Entertainment ID Cards - ID Cards From the Identity Props Store is selling about 30 of my designs and certainly also from other artists. He even doesn't care for watermarks or personal pictures in the IDs. He's banned from the RPF for a few years now.

That really sucks that someone would abuse the free work people put up on here. I've made several things from the paper props section and I've also made things from Kerners site. Wouldn't even enter my head to stick the stuff on ebay, just wrong! *sigh*

The story continues with these sad individuals, even on other sites where some collectors will not hesitate to do their make recasts of my work, and these collectors have no qualms about posting photos of these objects.
They have only the name of collectors and not passion.

More it becomes a competition (highly ridiculous) a real passion. .. But the finest collections are those that can not see ... (to think)

The thing that really baffles me is that he used my card (which I changed a previous layout by a member and redid the ID photo to the proper photo, which wasn't the easiest thing) instead of using SquidMan's insanely awesome, screen accurate card! I mean how stupid are you?! If you're gonna copy someone's work, than at least do it right...Hahaha...In all seriousness though, I'm still relatively new to the game and was one of those "that'll never happen to me" people. But the good news is that I promise to never take it out on my wonderful community, TheRPF! When I make a new paper prop, I will still be offering them to my supporters and friends here. So get ready, cause I'm not done yet!

There is also a vendor who comes here regularly but under another nickname, it takes only files, made some modifications and sells them on Ebay, it also takes photos of objects on Yourprops to make recats, the most shameful is that he was to repeat the LAPD id card Cannon TV show regretted Kennyd Delman, and thus the offer for sale.

Although its replicas is very poor and not faithful, he sells some very expensive piece
to over 200$ (the people are ready to put huge sums for parts poor quality).

This is an Italian seller very great distrust.

God i hate ninja's no brains of their own to come up with anything other than (lets steal some one else hard work and profit from it),

bloody disgusting hope he gets banned from Ebay too.

Mate! welcome to the show!! years ago I used to share a lot, I mean A LOT, until I saw a lot of things posted on ebay, I decided to also share files by PM, but even like that they turned up on ebay and other sites, so I decided not to share anymore, its a bitch, I know, but I got tired of this thing happening over, and over and over again.

Cya mate!!

hi all,

This arguments an old one and sadly on going but lets look at it from another point of view for a momnet

1. - If you gave the original file away FREEE then you have given away all rights to that file and design, unless you specified in the post that it is given away free for personal use only and not for commercial use, I don't think you you got a leg to stand on.

2. - If anyone takes/downloads the file takes time to source mateerials, and make age etc. the item, then should they not be allowed to sell it as they have "made" it themself

3. - As technically most of the items we create on here are protected by copyright anyway, we are all in the wrong anyway for creating "replicas" and "SA" copies of items, and oneday moaning like this will draw unwanted attention to this forum from the studios and the rightful copyright owners.

This is a very grey area and theres not really much you can do about it, yes Ebay can ask them to stop selling the items, but thats only one site there are lots of other ways to sel stuff online and your not going to be able to stop them, I also don't agree particularly with selling items created by someone else myself but there are a few arguments with the whole subject, like my first point.

If like me and dd28, we are creating approx 70-800 unique Items for our Indy journal and these are not found anywhere else except or journal so yes I'd be a little pissed if they came iup on ebay but as we intend to sel it commercaily and we will own the rights to the images, files, etc. we create, then we would be in a stronger position than some. but that being said once its done its done and too late then...

So I'm on the fence on this subject and not - so can't give my own opinion jhust making it clear that there are other views out there not just one.

It's really split into two groups those that enjoy sharing and wouldn't think of recasting and those that come here to solely rip off the good guys for a fast buck. I think PM to download is the only safety net an artist has,at least this way the artist has some way of monitoring who has their stuff and by process of elimination and some detective work, can see what numbnuts is ruining our hobby.

The strange thing is that thre recasters sometime sell paper props that are not even "canon"! The maker takes it off the site and suddenly the "non-canon" prop becomes valuable and canon.......

Did I make sense?

Somewhat, but the non-canon cards are still non-canon, that ******* identityprops took my inspired Umbrella ID design, which never appeared onscreen or games and still sells it…

Identityprops is even selling my MacGyver ID card including the watermark. How stupid is that?

Well, just start a thread that is about paper props and state that they are not open and free to the public.

(quoted from brfan64)

I would tend to agree with this one. I got spanked here for offering art via PM only, and spanked yet again since I had watermarked the sample that was posted to protect my work. I don't mind sharing, but due to the restrictions on the forum I have chosen to not release many of the fan inspired, or as close to screen accurate, images that I have produced in this venue.

Watermarking and PM requests to obtain the files should be allowed, there are few other ways to protect the intent and the work itself.

Just my $.02, I'm broke now..
