My Old Series TARDIS Console (Pic Intense)

This is an amazing project. Keep up the good work. Have you got a copy of The Doctor Who Technical Manual? Your diagram reminds me of the one in that book.

yes it is based on that with a few added bits here and there, I was using that as a point to work from. But yes I do have the technical manual diagrams.

Wow! Looking EXCELLENT! Wish I had the skill and room to make one. Simply, fantastic!

Ok, time for a small update, Things are a bit slower around the house as the winter prep is done, ready to go, so I was able to do some work on the console a bit last weekend and some this weekend. It has mainly been bondo, sanding, followed by more bondo followed by more sanding. I have my console view screen (toilet flange) propped up in place where I want it, keyboards are in place and I have my levers temporarily screwed in place as well. I still need to do some more filling and sanding on those to get it where I want but you will get the general feel in these pictures I think. So..here weeee..GO!!!!

Shot from the Right, you can see where the screen will be, its a toilet flange painted silver, I will be sandwiching it between two plexiglass disks with a graphic under the top plexiglass, I will also be cutting a whole in the console just under it to backlight it. It will be fixed in place with threaded rods hidden with pvc pipe and also ribbed conduit to give a more orgainic feel, as well as some computer cables connecting it to the panel, Right now I am holding it in its future position with wood dowels and two screws.

I have been bondoing these keyboards for a nice smooth transition into the console so it doesn't look like I just glued it there, once its primed and painted I think its going to look pretty good, couple shots of that

And lastly my levers, really high tech, made with hardboard, wooden dowels and wooden balls, I still need to do a lot of clean up on these but the basic look is there.

Thanks for looking

Well its been a few months since I posted an update but I have been able to work on my console the last few weekends and am feeling good on the progress. I am close to finished on two panels and have started a 3rd panel. I have made some changes on what I wanted for panel 3 and added some detail to panel 2 which is the one with the keyboards. All the lights and switches are dry fit right now until I get the console done and start the wiring phase. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks guys..I am on a role since I got one of Russ's Tom Baker Sonics..makes building so much faster :)

Some updates for you. I got some work done focusing primarily on the panel edge covers. I was able to get all of them done. I need to fnish up the small hard board covers at the end to close them in. Then its priming and getting them painted. Here are a few pictures of the progress so far Enjoy and thanks for looking.

Wow, that is EPIC, I can't wait to see it finished. I'm seriously coveting that blue box you've got there too...

Yeah I read this thread a while ago but I just had to take another look with you bumping the topic lol.

Absolutely beautiful console build. Definitely jealous of this and the TARDIS you have.

Well, it wasn't so much a bump. I visit this thread a few times a month wishing I had that console in MY basement and this time I just couldn't help but post.

Haha I hear you. I'd love to have the tools, money time and space (yes, time and space :p) to build a console and a TARDIS as well. One day I shall do just that.

I wonder if anything else has happened with this build since January.

This is shaping up to be a pretty amazing build. I can't wait to see the finished result. Thanks so much for posting your progress pics, they make me smile and are very informative! Bravo. From one crazy man to another, you have mad skills.

It's been the better part of a year since this thread had some traffic, thanks for the reminder, CC.

So, Karst...let's see some new shots...even if you haven't done anything new to the console.

I'm blown away by what I've seen so far and would love to see more. I agree with greatwazoo42. Even if you've done nothing on this project in the past year I'm dying to see more photos.

Well done!

While I would personally want a TVM TARDIS console I have to admit I do have a soft spot for the classic. Very nice and quite evocative of the original design.
