My New 52 Starfire!

A few months back I finished my New 52 Starfire costume, from Red Hood and the Outlaws! A lot of help in making this came from my boyfriend, we both really killed ourselves working hard on this. Skimpier costumes are not always easier than fully covered ones!

As im sure anyone whos seen her knows, Starfires got some pretty impossible proportions mixed with a gravity defying costume. We did the best we could with what we had, and I really love how it turned out! There's still a few things I want to fix up before I wear it next time, but i'm really proud of the work we did.

The entire top is made from worbla, which was really difficult. It would have been much easier to just make a fabric bra-style top (and I almost gave up a few times and resorted to that) but in the end we kept it accurate and made it armour! The neck piece is craft foam and worbla, as are the arm guards. The wig is 4 wigs and 2 ponytail clips sewn together to try to get the thickness and gradient of her hair!

This costume is really difficult to wear, not only because there's so little to it, but also because the wig itself is super heavy, and those shoes are impossibly hard to walk in! I actually managed to twist my ankle within the first 5 minutes. Way to go, eh? (Boyfriend is the Red Hood, and the Roy is just someone we found at the con! Young Justice Roy, I know, but it was still fun!)

This costume took us in total about a month, on and off. The top was the hardest part, we remade it a few times. I think I spent about.. 350-400 total for everything needed! It was all worth it in the end.

First, costume looks professional. Great job !

Second, you are very brave to wear that around fan-boys.

Third, I'm not familiar with the new 52, is her skin not orange like the classic version?

Thanks!
She is orange still. I dont own an airbrush machine/have access to one, and doing a full body paint by hand of a color like orange is basically impossible to get even and natural looking! So I went with the next best thing and got as tan as I could, including a spray tan. I think the difference is pretty noticable - The last photo was taken at a different convention than the others, and you can see how pale I am vs the other ones.

You do look more tan/orange in the first set of pics.

Have you tried those tanning creams instead of the spray? I've heard depending on the shade you choose and how much you use it can make you look orange- not desirable if you're trying to look tan but great if you're trying to look orange.

Freaking Fantastic!

well, starfire's certainly grown up since she was in teen titans!

not sure I like this version (the animators design i mean not your rendition).. but great work and great costume none the less :)

Well to do know Star did a lot more after she became an adult hero.

Could you do a orange "nude suit" type thing? It would give you more coverage while adding the orange skin.

That would be a LOT more work, though! I'd need to airbrush on body details like bellybutton, as well as proper shading/contouring - but if im going to be investing that much in, might as well just airbrush my skin!

Im actually considering an airbrush machine soon because ive got a bunch of costumes planned that involve full bodypaint, so maybe soon!

I take it the worbla thermo plastic is pretty tight on there (kinda like a spring loaded c-clamp)?

Awesome job with the costume!
And yes very brave of you to wear that around fanboys...

I like your take on the character.............very nice indeed.....Also thanks for sharing the Cosplay link as well....it helped me find some things I have been looking for for other projects.........Much appreciated.
