My Indiana Jones Ventures, Making props and custom displays

Coated the front and top of the skull with plaster of Paris sheets. I only used 1 sheet inside the eye sockets because my plan is to run a screw with a washer to hold it to a wooden stand. Then I will cover the insides with the smooth on modeling texture.

Needs to dry and then I can do the other sides one at a time

Back to the Diary. This time I am using a little help from an anonymous member that printed one out for me and graciously allowed me to cover and weather it and add my finishing touches. Here is my progress so far. I really wanted to hand write my own however I couldn't get my hands on the pages to the point where I can edit them to the exact size to copy them to my book. This will have to do for now. We will see if I pick back up again later on.

I just finished making the cover. I used light weight cardboard to crease and bend to my desire and brown goat skin from Hobby Lobby.
I only placed the book to the cover for a test fit and photos. I am going to weather the book a bunch before attaching the cover. Then I will weather the cover and add more weathering to the pages if need be.

I’m also making a hero Idol. I started a build log on it already but I’ll probably just keep it here.
I have a Relic maker Beloq Idol and I started with an Idol I had to finish off eBay from Cool models. Side by side they are really close in size and appearance so I decided to buy another kit along with some eyes and try my hand at making a hero Idol. I cut a chunk out of the eyes area and used a dremel to hollow out the eyes. The eyes are doll eyes bought off eBay as well.
Right now the plan is to hold guild her. So far I’m liking the results

I think one of the best parts, or at least my favorite with prop building is the beating up weathering stage. It always pops up in my mind with the Lucas saying
“Don’t make it look real, make it look believable “

I just began my weathering of the Grail Diary

Again, still not glued to the cover just yet. Still tweaking and getting it the way I want it.

First shots are the weathered pages sitting in the new cover. Second group is the cover beat up and weathered as well. Still unattached. Still more to go but I’m happy with the progress so far.

While I have the inserts, I don't have the dimensions needed to edit and print. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Finished the Idol and poured the base. Just need to paint it
The more I look at the Idol, the more I like it. It was one of those need to put down projects. I kept messing with the finish so I stopped and let it sit. Then went back to it saying to myself, I like it just the way it is. Gilded with gold leaf and sealed . Gives it that aged for ever look

Making a base for my headpiece to be on a staff. Definitely not my idea seeing how there are a few of these out there. Making mine small and unique to fit my display area.
Using plaster of Paris like I used so the grail tablet.
I used a small plastic tub I had laying around that I felt was the perfect size. All poured and hardening as I type. Probably won’t be able to do much with it for a couple of days. I want to shape it so I know I need to make sure it’s fully cured before do that. I also like the tablet, used screen mesh in the pour for added strength and support.

Also am working on the lance of Longinus from Dial of Destiny.
I used styrene and basically just stacked pieces together and shaped. I’m working on the handle part now. Blade is really close. Also, pretty surprised how it’s turning out. You can probably stab flesh for real with this thing. It’s pretty stout.

Also, the more I study the pictures I posted as screen grabs, the more I see the blade isn’t perfectly symmetrical so I’m taking that route. I also believe the shroud coving part of the blade to be leather. I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me. After all what’s else can it be? This is 2000 years old, so they didn’t have plastic. Could be more metal but that makes no sense as to why they would cover halfway down with more metal.

Here is the handle process. I will hopefully be able to shape in a little while today. It is drying right now so it needs time to cure. Plan is to complete the blade including finishing paint and weathering, and then approach the covering.
