ha! awesome idea for your "handler"! been following your build and encountered the same problem with the tissue paper. then I tried cheesecloth for texture, i'm sure I remembered reading somewhere someone using crinkled cotton fabric for texture but I couldn't find any at the local fabric shop. I've tried a sample on my suit with the cheesecloth, I thought I would help with flexibility. not bad.
really enjoying your build. can't wait to see finished suit!

Now that my kids' costumes are done it's back to Groot! Only 24 days till Ottawa PopExpo. Not sure I'm going to make it with the set back I had. But I'm going to try!

Back is almost finished.



Very happy with the Super 77 glue but man is it sticky! Looks great. Very happy with how the tissue turns out with it.

Sorry... Been swamped with full time job, family and studying part time. Groot project will continue in a couple of weeks when I'm on Christmas break.

It's looking brilliant. I'm just redoing my Groot mask as I rushed the first attempt and also I have a Dremel now. It's good to see your experiments with the body as it's going to save me a load of time not making the same mistakes as I was going to use the tissue paper and PVA method. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

The Super 77 is working great. I've taken a few months off from working on Groot.... Getting back into it. Must have it ready by May for Ottawa ComicCon.

Back at it after a longer than expected break.

Got the bark work finished on the upper body. Wanted to test this again before doing the legs since last time it all ended up peeling off





Very happy with the results so far.

Got a few coats of paint on the big guy...






Found an area where I didn't go far enough with the bark texture... will have to fix that.

This angle makes the mask look a tad darker then the rest of the body... may have to touch up the mask to lighten it up a bit.

Gave Groot a little more colour... wanted to give it more of a living vine look rather than dead stick

Got a tissue question...are you just applying the tissue straight frm the package to the foam or are you doing anything to it before gluing it with super 77?

I simply crumple it up and glue it in such a way that it creates creases and folds.
