My General Lee Replica

Here are some pics of my screen accurate General Lee replica that took me quite a few years to restore and paint. My dad owns a bodyshop so I learned all of my welding, bodywork, and painting skills from him. All of the graphics, lettering, and numbers were painted on; I stenciled in all of the graphics onto some graphics tape and then had to cut them out with a razor. The visor has been signed by a few of the actors from the tv show. I have since added more that aren't pictured. Hope you guys enjoy it.

That is sweet! This pass weekend I saw a KITT replica that was OK but your Lee is very nice! I'd love to own a Bat Mobile some day the 66 one from the TV Show. Nice work very nice!:thumbsup

That looks a lot like one of the studio cars that come out to the Star Car Central events. The car I've seen from the series had the entire interior sprayed tan with vinyl paint.

Looks like fun. Don't forget to do plenty of un-necessary burn outs.

Very nice.

Wasn't the show responsible for making the Charger a rarer vehicle, as in the amount they destroyed? Did I hear somewhere that John Schneider did a very nice sideline restoring 'General Lee' replicas?

Thank for all of the postivie replies. The interior is painted tan, it used to be black. I had to mix up some vinyl paint specifically to match the color used on the show. A company makes the seat covers and front/rear door panels in the General Lee tan; however, the upper door pads, dash, steering wheel, console and all of the other plastic trim was black and it had to be painted. I picked a specific episode from season 4 and went with that for my screen accuracy. Yes, I have the dixie horn installed and it does sound the same as the show. I also have the correct Cobra CB radio and correct radio shack CB antenna. The rims are the exact same american racing vectors that they used for the show.

Very nice. I'm glad you didn't do the movie screen accurate one without the rebel flag on top. It's just not the same car without it.

Thank you so much for posting this!

The General Lee is definitely my holy grail. Having been born in the late '70s I was the perfect age to fall in love with it. I have models and toys and RC cars and shirts, etc. Some day I will own one, and thankfully the wife is fully on board with that.

Very nice.

Well, they destroyed around 220, though the exact number is in contention. Considering they produced around 180,000 between '68 and '69, it really didn't put a dent in the number of available cars. What it did do, though, is add to the demand and therefore helped drive up prices.

John Schneider's (former) personal General Lee is what I would like to pattern my eventual car after. He raced his pretty regularly and it was built very well. If I remember correctly, he had a 528ci crate Hemi with a 727 and GearVendors under/over drive unit. :love :lol

I think I'm going to be sick:cry, I hate you ! (just kidding)
The General is the best TV/Movie car ever !

BTW, Welcome aboard :thumbsup

He's absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!!!

My dad and I did a '76 corvette and I painted the interior the same color as your Charger. Actually wasn't that difficult to get it painted. The interior is the easy part. That engine on the other hand.....that's where the real work is. Yours looks amazing!

The general consensus is that it was a stock 350, right?

I always, ALWAYS love seeing General Lee replicas. I got to ride in one once, which was totally awesome. I think I've see a couple of the show cars in person as well in different places.

Well, being that the General is a mopar it wouldn't be carrying a 350 (GM motor) the '69 Dodge Charger came with anywhere from a slant six to a 426 Hemi! rbinkos is most likely a 440.
