My First Prop. Xavier's School Plaque. Finished Pics Page 5.

Re: My First Prop. Xavier's School Plaque.

I'm going to try to post some pics later tonight of the wax positive, and the cold cast test castings.

Re: My First Prop. Xavier's School Plaque.

Looking forward to seeing work in progress shots, Madrobot! :thumbsup

Re: My First Prop. Xavier's School Plaque.

How'd I miss this? Beautiful stuff. Can't wait to see the final project.

Re: My First Prop. Xavier's School Plaque.

They said about 4 weeks on the bronze. Might be sooner. I'll be posting some pics of the cold cast pieces late tonight or early tomorrow depending on what I get done.

Thanks for the kind words!

Here's one of the test casts. Finished pics coming later on the finished stuff. This plaque is bigger than the other one I saw, and please make note of the thickness of this piece.

Thanks for looking!

Re: My First Prop. Xavier's School Plaque.

What material is that test cast made of? How much will these weigh in cold-cast bronze?

Re: My First Prop. Xavier's School Plaque.

The test cast was made of just plain old black polyurethane resin.

The cold cast bronze pieces have a bronze powdercoat on the face, then backfilled with mixture of bronze powder, resin, porcelain frit, and alabaster.

I'm guessing in the neighborhood of 6 to 7 lbs. Maybe more depending on how much bronze powder I toss into the mix. I wanted the castings to be substantial.

My client only wanted 5, plus the full bronze.

Re: My First Prop. Xavier's School Plaque.

I've been laid up with some kind of wannabe Pneumonia. Horking up things I can't explain. It's delayed my progress a bit.

Horking up things I can't explain.

Well, if we see any unexplained bronze blobs, we'll know what they are! :sick :angry

This is one of the wax positives, and one of the first cold cast bronze test pieces. There was some winnowing from the mold release, but should clean up nicely.

I think I'll actually get all of my work accomplished tomorrow as I'm feeling much better.

Re: My First Prop. Xavier's School Plaque.

Man that is great work. Your stuff always looks so clean and professional. Amazing work man.

Re: My First Prop. Xavier's School Plaque.

Lookin' great. How do you get the background dark and leave the raised letters brighter? Isn't there a smudge factor?

The 5 my client asked for, prior to patina and finishes. They weigh in at 3 and 1/4 Lbs each.

Not sure what the full bronze will weigh just yet.
