My first bucket

The Biggs

New Member
Hello!

I am busting at the seams to begin a new project. My idea is to build a helmet (cast and mold the thing) but I need help deciding which one to make. I'm looking for something manageable for a beginner, but also effing awesome.

Please give me ideas. A photo image would be helpful!

Thank you!
Colin

Not sure if you're a gamer, but there's some great helmets/hats that are in-game drops for Team Fortress 2. You find them randomly (I think it's around 1% every time you kill an enemy) and some of them are quite cool. I'll try and hunt down some pictures for you - I'm sure someone has posted a complete list of them all... just gotta find it.

Jim

Found one - not sure if it's 100% complete as TF2 developers seem to add more all the time:

Just from my own experience, I found it quite rewarding an experience to create mine as the rebel standard (all white with blue birds) and then paint it up from there with my own pattern. I LOVED doing it and highly recommend that you try your own paint scheme, since EVERYONE does the Luke, Biggs, Porkins, Wedge helmets.

That said, I think the Luke helmet is a good one to start with if you are going to display it because it is so recognizable.

Here is my bucket finished minus complete weathering:

A rebel helmet sounds awesome. If I choose this one it would have to be Biggs Darklighter's cause, well that's my last name!

Are there any templates or instructions for a rebel helmet build on the internet?

There are. You can either buy a kit from someone who has already done the vacuforming for you, or start from scratch. Either way, there is plenty of information on www.rebellegion.com.

If you want to build one from scratch using a real AP-H6 helmet, you can use this tutorial:

http://www.richiesarmor.com/helmet_tutorial_new.htm

However, since some folks have already gone through the trouble of making kits based off these helmets, that is what I recommend. It will save you a lot of headache.

There is a user on rebellegion.com called Jedi Mickey who makes a great kit. He's probably also a member on here, but I don't know his username. Here is what the kit arrives looking like:

If going this route interests you, send me a message and I'll get you the info on how to get one.

hmmm. I really want to do a 100% scratch build and do a 2-piece mold. I'm thinking something more like one of these...

Cobra Commander (Battle helmet):

I'm a comicbook nerd so perhaps something a little more unique. Please let me know which one you think I should make. Or suggest different ones!

You lost me at "comic book". Not my thing.

So of the ones that you mentioned, the only one that could actually be considered a "prop" is the Magneto since it appeared in a film, therefore, if I had to select from your options there, Magneto would win by default.

Best of luck, and be sure to post plenty of progress pics.

Personally I would love to see the Weapon X helmet that would be great, but if you are not to skilled in the prop making arts(as i am) you might want to try the Wizards of Flight Pepakura Boba helmet, its nice and easy to make and looks pretty good i have one thats coming along nicely.

I think I know what to make...old school Cylon helmet. eh? Does anyone have measurements or any specs on this bucket?
