My Finished Sgt.Fang/Rubies ANH Vader Helmet

I recently finished this up. There is still a little bit of dome repositioning to do, but i'm pleased with the way it came out! The face is a slightly modified Sgt.Fang, the helmet is a modded Rubies Supreme. Gloss black throughout, then the gunmetal handpainted to show all brushstrokes. Various scapes, scuffs and dings added for extra Vader Flavour!

Looks great. I am working on mine right now and a little nervous about doing the gunmetal.

Any tips to brushing it on? What paint did you use, what size brush? Did you mask off areas or just free hand it?

Honestly, I think that looks great.

I can't believe that's a modded Rubies dome, it's gone from craptacular to spectacular with the changes you've made.

Gunmetal on the faceplate looks good too.

The best advice i can give is don't be afraid! The only bits i masked were the nose line and the bottom mouth line....even then, when the paint was dry, i want back and sanded and scraped it. I used Humbrol Gunmetal with a couple of drops of Tamiya titanium silver. I used a half inch,(i think) flat brush with fairly stiff bristles.

just go for it and have fun!

Also, utilise the massive pics databases on The Prop Den and Star Wars helmets...invaluable!!!

SgtFang is the guy who makes that faceplate, he does the face and helmet/dome actually but Clancampbell has swapped the dome for a Rubies.

Well, I painted mine. I gotta say it's hard to paint something to make it look um, uh bad. It looks a lot like yours, so I guess that's good.
