Those are a thing of beauty, sir. Well done.

What did you use (internally, I'm guessing) to hold them in place? Or did you say and I completely overlooked it?

Astounding!! So beautiful. If you tire of it, I would love to buy it, as I am always on the lookout for costumes for chubby older guys (you are neither, BTW!) this annihilates my efforts at this character!

This is just fantastic! One of the nicest and professional looking Cosplays I've ever seen. Those arms look like they've been added Post production man!

Thanks folks!

The internal structure is 22mm plastic plumbing piping with 45' angles! Seems I missed uploading that photo...let me find it! I did this as a quick means to an end as was running out of time. I may look into some simple anamatronics in the future, or making the arms more flexible.

In case you haven't seen it (I didn't see it mentioned in your thread), Adam Savage did a similar sort of build for Patton Oswalt and used aluminum armature wire for the arm cores, which made them light weight and poseable. Here's the build video from Tested.

WOW! They look even MORE fantastic! Such a great job. I'm sure there's a way eventually that you can do the smallest little electronics to make just a few little things, like even just the pincers open and close. Not saying that what you have isn't amazing in and of itself. It is. It's the best I have EVER seen and I've been in this whole costuming thing for only 3 years or so, but man, they don't look like foam, and they look SERIOUSLY great. You should be very proud of what you've created here. It's inspiring to see what you've created. Now ENJOY THEM!!!!! :)

Ah I just saw that you're in The UKG and Reel Icons...so that explains your ridiculous talent!

derp I should have edited my other post instead of posting AGAIN. Sorry everyone.

Awesome work!!!

Wondering what the part is that you've used to mount the PVC to the board? (My local hardware store has a HUGE range of useless parts for prop making >< (they serve their market of builders well though XD)

Thanks folks!

Cannot begin to express how cool, amazing and i don't know what else. I'm just speechless. YOU DA MAN!!!GM

joshslayton, It is very light, there is some sway when you move which can't be helped. Actually makes it look 'alive'. Naturally, the sensation and awareness of the arms do make you move cautiously, kind of like creeping around, lol!
elro, the part that attaches to the board is a 38mm(from memory, or there abouts) screw fitting. There is a second part, an adaptor that converts from 22mm to 38mm, that slips inside the screw fitting. Each part has then been screwed together to stop unwanted rotations. Sorry thats a bit vague, i'm not at home for the next week and can't check the details!

Thanks again for the positive comments! :)

Hey! This is fantastic! I had done a bunch of brainstorming on building this rig myself, but your approach was much better than mine. Foam for the win!

I am an electronics guy, and have been developing custom solutions for costumes for a few years now. I've got an idea for how to make the arms and claws manipulable and controlled by your own arms. The tech to do this is relatively cheap, so if you're interested in modifying your design to include movement, fire me a PM and I can help you out. :)

Again, excellent work!

I'm very sorry folks, but I am ceasing to use this community.

theRPF has 'reposted' my images after I shared them from my Facebook page thus stripping them of all credits. 're-Sharing' my image would have sufficed, and given me the encouragement to undertake my next project. I can't condone this ill mannered activity.

We are either all in this hobby together, or not at all.

Good luck everyone!

That would be a real shame to the community considering your obvious talent. :(

Was that picture only on your facebook and not posted on here? (Can't tell as you've edited your posts) If it was on here its understandable they might have taken it and uploaded it to their facebook site. Not intentionally removing the credits. They did after all put your name in the description crediting you to its creation.

Have you talked to whomever runs the facebook site? I'm sure it was just an oversight and nothing malicious.

But that said I do agree with you in that credits need to be given

Nicholas,

As I sent to you via email, Nicholas:

I am sorry that you believe we have done something out of line by posting and promoting your costume. We do this every day via our Facebook page and members are typically thrilled to have their content shared with others. And we always give credit, just as we did with you.

With that being said, when you signed up here at the RPF, you stated that you had read and agreed to abide by our Terms of Use which includes the following:

8. RIGHTS YOU GRANT TO MPS

A. User Content. By submitting any User Content through or to the Services, including on any User Tools or User Pages, you hereby irrevocably grant to MPS, its affiliates and distributors, a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, and fully sub-licensable license, to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, publicly perform, publicly display, create derivative works from, transfer, transmit and distribute on the Services, in connection with promotion or elsewhere, such User Content (in whole or in part) and to incorporate the User Content into other works in any format or medium now known or later developed. MPS will take reasonable precautions to help you to keep your email and voicemail messages private. The foregoing grants shall include the right to exploit any proprietary rights in such User Content, including but not limited to rights under copyright, trademark, service mark or patent laws under any relevant jurisdiction. You agree that the foregoing grant of rights by you to MPS is provided without any the entitlement of payment of fees or consideration.

Please feel free to review this policy (which is an internet standard) and the rest of the Terms of Use that you agreed to, here: TERMS OF USE | Movie Prop Sites, LLC

You say that "we are either all in this hobby together, or not at all." Well, we are all in and have been all in for well over 15 years; promoting, sponsoring, inspiring and assisting members just like you in any way we can.

I am sorry to see you leaving due to a misunderstanding on your part.

This is indeed a shame. We always credit our members when we post about their awesome builds. Apparently, Nick felt that we should be promoting his personal Facebook page as opposed to his build thread here on the RPF and was willing to give up his membership over us sharing his work with others.
