Hi folks,

Well I've been loving my Spider-Man so much I've decided to make a Doc Ock to duo with him. So here is my build :D

I think I'm about 50% the way through with most of the arms done. Just the hands, final construction and paint to be completed.

I'm aiming for as accurate as possible, but it won't be 100%. I've had to make some decisions due to time and costs, but I think the end result will be a good likeness!

So first of all we have Doc Ocks threads...the coat has been dyed with a green hue since this was taken, it looks very effective. It does lack the duster style cowl seen in the film. If the costume works out as well as I hope, I may alter/replace this at a later date. The sun glasses will be having added detail, but theres not much to see here.

My plan for the arm segments. After looking at the price of foam(I want them to be lightweight so decided foam), I found for a little extra I could get whatever shape I wanted cut. Having them machine cut keeps the shape uniform which will iprove the over all look. I really didn't feel I had the time to create moulds myself. So far I'm pleased with the results!

After some simple detailing, the arms are starting to look very familiar! :D

The hands/grippers are what I'm currently working on. As before I want a good level of accuracy, but also lightweight. Might have some simple LED's in them, and they will be jointed. You can see the scale in the picture above.

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

I love this character and your costume! The tentacles are amazing! Where did you get the foam cut, if I may ask?

Really nice work! Keep the photos coming!

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

Hey, thanks, and will do! :)

I'm based in the UK, so I used Efoam.co.uk. I never really thought about having it machine cut until I saw their site and the cost was pretty cheap.

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

wow those are pretty Awesome tentacles!!

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

This looks amazing, looking forward to seeing all the arms assembled. Nice find on the foam cutting company, just wondering where did you get the hoses from?

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

Subscribed. This is amazing (pun intended).

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

Just to put yours in perspective (way to the right on the awesomeness scale!), here is my daughter and I with my weekend, plumbing department Doc Ock and Bat Girl:

The claw over my right shoulder opened and closed when I pulled a rope in my left coat pocket. Battery operated Christmas lights in the claws.

Fun!

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

That does look fun! I thought about making the grippers open and close, I may do electronically at a later date.

Thanks very much for the positive comments folks! Its not going t be a fast build as I work away from home, so it'll be as and when I have the time -that said I'm taking some away with me, lol!

@jsquared Actually found them on Ebay!

DOCTOR OCTOPUS PROGRESS!!

I've been making some steady progress this week on my Doc Ock, hopefully, all going to plan, I should have him finished by the end of the week!

All the arm segments are complete and undercoated using Plastidip, today I begin painting all 100 of them! The claws are being undercoated. The skeleton to hold the arms is about 50% done...and thank god it works...I had my doubts, lol!

Here's some progress shots!

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

The machine cut foam is blowing my mind. This is fantastic. Way to raise the bar.

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

Holy cow... That is absolutely awesome mate never thought about having it machine cut before how reasonable was it? suit looks absolutely awesome hopefully I'll see it in the flesh at some point at a con if you hit any of the london ones

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

Thank folks! XD

Yea, machine cut sections saved sooo much time, and keeps the shapes uniformed like they were moulded. I used the cut shapes and covered them in a 3mm foam layer to add the detail. The shapes were 30pence each, plus the tool which cost £30 as a one off.
Nytefall, If you're going to MCM later this month...you can meet Doc Ock then! I'll be Spider-man, my mate is wearing this Doc costume. The links in your signature look amazing, please do come say, we need photos! XD

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

Whoa! This is a cracking costume mate! You have absolutely nailed the claws; they look incredible. Nice Spidey too. Looking forward to seeing it when complete! Did you use spray-on plasti-dip, or was it painted on? Well done fella. :)

Re: My 'Doctor Octopus' Build (Raimi Film Version)

Thanks again folks!
Nytefall, See you there buddy :)
Dagibbon, I used the spray plastidip. First time using it. I like it, but it just requires a lot of layers to build a smooth coating. Way too expensive :(
