My brass and nickel PLATED SidKit Mal Gun

hahah thanks...

i had the brilliant idea of useing snap caps for the "rounds" in the magazine.... now is just need to find a good price

so um..... who thinks i need sum gunleather for this thing?

wheres the most accurate holster?

Found this guy over at eBay. His name is Paul and he runs Reddog Leather. He's very aware of the Firefly and Serenity pistols, and the differences. He asks which style you want. His stuff is first rate, but not cheap. He also makes a holster for Zoe's Mares Leg sawed off lever action rifle. He made me 2 amo pouches also. I asked for the Serenity model as it comes with a floating belt loop. His eBay name is "dnegel1231"

What are "snap caps". I was under the impression that the "rounds" in the magazine were 38 caliber rounds. I'm not to sharp on guns, but I'm willing to learn.

snap caps are inert "fake" bullets... most of the time the area where the primer is is rubber or the thing has a spring in it.
the point of them is so you can load them into a real gun and "dry fire" the gun without damagine any of the firing pin mechanism.
they come in every kinda caliber out there and a company called A Zoom makes some aluminum ones that could look just like real bullets if painted.... this is for prop purposes only and not really a good SAFE idea to do around real guns.

I suggested a 357 magnum because its a longer cartridge than a 38 special.
a 357 magnum and .38 are same diamter, just different hull casing length... (30 special is shorter)

David, Thanks for the info about snap caps. I went to a local gun shop to check out snap caps and found a better solution. Reloaded empty rounds. I got 12 .357 Magnum reloaded empty rounds for $10.00, and you don't have to paint them, and they do fit the magazines very well, plus they are safe. I think I'll epoxy 2 of them in each magazine. I have four magazines, 2 for the pouches, 1 for the pistol, and 1 for display. That leaves 4 rounds for displaying loose.

Hey David, seems I heard that you were trying to sell the "Brass and Nickel PLATED Sidkit Mal Gun". Did you have any luck, and why in the world would you consider selling it? You were setting a standard that we all wanted to attain.

Yes, the rumor was true, i WAS TRYING to sell it...
why? money i guess...

it seems others are coming on board with the plating.... even QMx is gonna be copying me...
BUT mine will be THE FIRST with the wooden grips that are being made!

i should have the prototypes in a few weeks, then we can start sellin these badboys!

after an exhaustingly long wait, I have just decided that i will never see my resin grips again, let alone the wood ones that were to come of it.
so i ordered another set of resin grips from Sid and i went ahead and finished them to apear like wood.
I used rough 230 grit sandpaper in linear strokes, then took the serrated portion of my pocketknife blade and drug it linearly down the grips to give them "grain".
the paint job, was not really painting at all, but rather rubbing, LOTS of rubbing. black, ivory and translucent brown paint, finished iwth a matte finish.
the result is actually better and more convincing than my first attempt and im very pleased with it.

I'm sorry? Pass that by me again.

You're saying that those grips are NOT wood?

Wow. Nice work!

hahaha
thats a HUGE compliment!!!

i found the sandpaper thing that other folks have tried DID give nice little grain structure, but thats not how wood is, wood is irregular, so the "scratching" with my pocketknife really did the trick

heres a lil beauty shot of it with my gearbag

they really stand out and look very clean. the knurling is super nice on um
i mght try to weather them down a bit however

if you look at the previous pictures i had brass thumbscrews from Phil on there.
they were accurate in shape and knurling, but not in material
the thumbscrews from Phil had threaded set screws that came with them, so i just reused those long set screws.

i used a little alum-black to age them.
