Very cool!
Very cool!
I sent that last picture I took to Masterpiece Models, pointing out the gap at the wheelhouse end, and they replied, "Looks like it fits as it should." I replied back with a photo of the 11' miniature, pointing out that the gap doesn't exist in any reference I can find (including the full size exterior set) - but I acknowledged that if the kit was designed like that, there's nothing they can do for me now. It won't be an enormous amount of work to extend it at that end, I just wish I didn't have to do it - it looks weird with that gap.
In other news, in a moment of incredible clumsiness, I snapped off (and lost) the tiny handles on the already painted and installed 3D printed dive levers. So I just ordered another set.
I'm telling you, go to Amazon and search for cabochons. That's what I used. Tiny glass or sometimes acrylic half domes. Worked perfectly for me. Comes in all sizes.
This is where I started and just kept searching from there. .........................

I wish I could tell you which sizes fit each, but looking at my order history there, I ended up ordering six different sizes before I got all the correct sizes that fit perfectly................
I did look yesterday, and did see the 6mm (1/4in)
I didn't order yet cause I stopped at Hobby Lobby to see what they had. all they had were the ones with the gem cut edges. for 3 bucks I bought them but still want the smooth ones. Going to get the Amazon ones today. Thanks for bringing that to my attention a second time.
I'm also considering doing another rather involved modification to this boat and want some feedback before I try it.
I'm building this one to look like the scene where Ned show up after the other guys are already on board. The main hatch is open, and there's barely the tip of the hatch poking out, and all the panels to the rear are up at an angle with what appears to be perforated panels showing.
I realize I might ruin the piece cutting it up. I was going to email Bob Martin and see if he or anyone else he knew of had ever done this mod, and hopefully get a procedure on it. a lot of work I know, but it sure would look good.
what do you think?????????????
Thanks my friend :thumbsup ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Just make sure the glue you use dries clear. I don't remember which glue I used, but it was in the craft section at Walmart.

that's what Timey is doing...I filed and sanded mine a bit and got it within the thickness of a matchbook without messing up the arch angle and flow, but as Timey pointed out to me, the wheel house all the way forward, it leaves a gap at the rear. so I'll be adding a bit more. Bob Martin tells me his kits are a much better quality, more money yes, but better pieces and an optional piece for the vent flaps up, that I just spent about 4 hours figuring out how to do. I gotta re-do the brass anyway...not enough holes and they're too big and not consistent and straight.I've often added a small piece of styrene to fill the gap between the raker arch and wheelhouse. This is a slight flaw that was in Scott Brodeen's original castings which I believe are now manufactured by Masterpiece.,
TW: Opening the breathers adds so much detail to the finished boat. Very nicely done!

From reading you guys' posts, I guess the one I have is not the one you have. I got mine directly from Bob and it was (discounted) at $300. I was wondering why yours was a darker resin than mine. Mine was more of a light brownish/gray before painting. But it was a really good cast, I didn't really have to trim anything. Between the price of the kit, all the paints and other stuff I had to buy, plus having to spend $100 on a new compressor for my airbrush, I'd say I spent a good $600 on mine total.
But yeah, it did come with two different sets of breathers, one open and one closed.
