After the many positive feedbacks and mails for my C3-Po stop motion puppet, (http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?p=846086#post846086)
I would like to show you some pics of my fully poseable Stormtroopers stop motion puppets, I made 1988 to 92.
Again thank you for your huge interest and for all the many friendly emails!
I´ll try to find some time to make some short clips about the specific figures.
For "Powerplay of Forces" I built 32 Stormtroopers, to be exact. I sculpted all the armour parts bit by bit. Then I directly used these as positive moulds. My intention always was to built everything from actual materials they used in the movies for the real things. So I made the armour of the Troopers out of vaccumed sheet plastic parts.
But I had to use a power dryer and a towel these days, to get it in shape. Only the Helmet was a hollow slushed cast from resin or plaster(!) and made from one part with the exception of the lenses and the padding.
Some of the Helmets had bubbled lenses, some of them had flat lenses like on the Hero- and Stunttroopers. In these days I didn´t know that the lenses were green. So I made them all in amber, which looked black anyway. So I was satisfied with them.
As you can see I made some with the grey "mouth", some of them with black ones.
The bodies had wire armatures and were covered with flexible foam. Nearly every trooper had a individual head under his helmet. Some were sculpted (for me as finger exercises) some only had vinyl puppet heads underneath. Each helmets was padded so, that they fit on the heads. That was neccesary to make propper animations.
Later on the Pilots and Scouts I built the Helmets out of the several components like on the originals.
Unfortunately I lost 14 Troopers on pyro shots, which had been necessary for the movie. The really bad thing about that was, that the fell out of the picture, sometimes, before they exploded. So I lost a week of building that dammed figures for nothing and had to built new ones.
Here are some screen- and behind the scene shots:
For the premier of our movie we let print out one of our Stormtrooper to a lifesize stand up. Here to see:
Finally our movie poster shows one Stormtrooper:
Let me know what you think.
Next time I will post something about my Chewie followed by other troopers. Let me know in what figures do you like to see as well!
If you want to know more: here´s a link to our movie storybook:
