My 1:1 Scale BB8 Build

Hey all,

This is my first proper post here on the RPF, I have been working on my BB8 for best part of a year and I am finally reaching completion. I have much to do on the drive and a new remote, so I will continue to update this thread with my progress. Enjoy

I got a new printer, The CR-10. It has a much larger bed so I decided to reprint the Dome again as my first one is made up of 3 sections. Its came out beautifully

Absolutely gorgeous - are you taking it to For The Love Of Sci Fi in Manchester at the beginning of December ?

My daughter is coming with me for her first convention, she will be wearing a Rey costumer and would love to meet BB8

Very nice BB. I'm jealous of the printer. I've been thinking about a CR10 for awhile but BT-1 is occupying my project budget for the time being. Is your new dome PLA or PETG?

Brilliant - I will look forward to seeing the BB8's in attendance and I'm sure my daughter will get a kick out of them

I saw the R2 builders club at Birmingham last weekend and I was blown away. I saw some at a distance in Celebration Orlando but seeing them up close was something else ... making me rethink my collecting habits and thinking about becoming a lifesize collector

I went with PLA simply out of habit as I have been working with it for so long i figure why change, my only worry with PLA is hear and I like in the UK where its never hot lol.

I feel like I have been waiting an age for these haha, but finally my super strong magnets have arrived from the US. BB8's dome is finally attached to the drive

I have been waiting for this last piece of the puzzle for so long and its finally here!

This is a custom PCB for the control unit, I just need to wire this baby up and I can finally finish the drive train to bring him to life

Update time, The remote is all wired and I have made some progress on the drive.

The Remote, Dome and Sphere are all communicating so I now know the code is good I even had him talking again!

I'm really curious about the custom boards. Is there a source that you could provide for those (Controller and the body). Also was wondering if the code is available?

This project is one of my bucket lists, but this is the part that actually had me concerned before I venture into it full bore.
