North By Northwest.

Nice. Is that an actual upgrade from the DVD? Is it noticeable?

Buddy of mine has Iron Man 2 on BR. He tells me it's one of the most feature packed discs he has right now. I personally would just get the Avengers boxed set. The one with Thor, Hulk, IM2, Captain America init

Yeah, I'm probably just gonna get the first box set rather than buy individually.

Pspsps. How about something with a little more... I don't know. Something to it?

Ah, didn't know that was out on BR yet. I'll definitely pick that one up. Probably gonna skip the TOS discs, though. I like the old F/X.

For me, the "must have" list is has folows:

- The crow
- Pulp Fiction
- Back to the future
- James Bond Colection
- inception

This would be the ones i buy first :)

But.... the BluRays do contain the old F/X.... in high definition.... unaltered.....

You can choose between the original versions or the digitally altered ones.

YEah, Inception's on the list. I'm picky about my Bond films, so I'll likely buy them individually over time. My Bond list would be:

- Dr. No
- From Russia with Love
- Goldfinger
- Thunderball
- You Only Live Twice
- On Her Majesty's Secret Service
- Live and Let Die
- The Spy Who Loved Me (which is basically YOLT 2)
- For Your Eyes Only
- Living Daylights
- Licence to Kill
- Goldeneye
- MAYBE Tomorrow Never Dies and MAYBE The World Is Not Enough. If I can get 'em cheap.
- Casino Royale
- probably not Quantum of Solace, but MAYBE I'd give it a rental to see if it improves on subsequent viewings.

Really?! That's awesome! I'll definitely get those, then! Maybe I'll stick 'em in the DVD "communicator" boxes I still have (the yellow, blue, and red sets).

You know another thing about Blu-rays is that if you wait you can get them cheap.

Carpenters The Thing, and Big Trouble In Little China I bought for Five freaking dollars a piece.

I mean that is giving them away in my book

Ditto to what apollo said. Even my local Best Buy, which despite the name isn't the cheapest place, has a bin with Blu-rays that are $5.99-$7.99. I've picked up Under Siege, Chasing Amy, and Trainspotting all for less than $9 each.

Also, for the classics crew, Casablanca is unbelievable on B-r. Whoever cleaned it up should be made a saint. It's gorgeous.

Nice. see, that's what I'm curious about -- which are the best BR transfers. There's plenty that are out there, but are they a marked improvement over the DVD, for example, or will a decent upscaling BR player handle the DVDs fine?

Not sure if you're a fan, but Once Upon a Time in the West remains my no. 1 Blu-Ray ever. Easily the most impressive transfer I've seen, considering it's age etc. This is definitely a BR I do not regret buying at full price. Absolutely a must-have if you say you are curious about the best transfers - this one takes the cake in my book.

I can also vouch for the nice, clean quality of Pulp Fiction, the beautiful color work in Blade Runner and the outstanding textures in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight (in fact, these last two are almost too good looking. I didn't realize Christian Bale had such bad skin! :lol)

I bought this one blind (love the movie), but it is not a good transfer unfortunately. It'll do 'till they revisit it. Not even close to Once Upon a Time in the West quality-wise.

Really? Dang. I was hoping to pick this one up eventually.

Like you say, hopefully they will give it a more in-depth restoration at some point.

Yeah, the whole No Name trilogy is a bit dnr'd which irritated me a bit, though I later did a screen capture comparison for a friend and they are an improvement over the standard dvd's. Some movies are actually better on regular DVD, like American Graffiti. That blu ray is absolutely terrible. Also, the prices aren't bad for the trilogy, and I've seen Once Upon a Time in the West for less than ten bucks. That one is a no brainier.

Ah yes, I read about Graffiti. Rocky is another bad one. This is why I never buy Blus until I read how the transfer is, if it's no better than an up converted DVD why bother. Sometimes they get the message, like Gladiator first release was horrible, then they (quickly) remastered it and it was terrific.

Ah, Gladiator. Thanks for the reminder on that one! NEver was a fan of 5th Element, so I won't be getting that.

Does anybody here own Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection on blu-ray? I am seriously considering getting. I can pick it up for 111.99 on Amazon. It seems to have good reviews there. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...d_t=101&pf_rd_p=1313202882&pf_rd_i=2901953011

I don't see how it can be reviewed as it isn't due out till October 2nd. I think the reviews are for the DVD version that were ported over or placed incorrectly by users in the Blu-ray version.
