Museum Collection Sting sword

I have the ordinary UC version of this sword but I'm wondering if the Museum Collection version is improved enough to justify upgrading. Has anyone here closely compared the two?

Thanks.

I never had the standard, but I'd say the MC is worlds above it from what I've seen. For starters, the etchingin the blade isn't reversed. It also has a more "real" feel to it. The box is kinda nice to. :)

It's about the quality level of a Windlass sword I'd say. It isn't a custom piece someone put a lot of time into, but it's a far cry better than a typical wallhanger.

The MC version overall is closer to the screen used sting. Here are some of the differences:

The regular version has the blade inscription stamped on whereas the MC version is ground out so that the lettering is raised and looks much, much better.

The MC version blade is high carbon spring steel as opposed to regular versions stainless steel.

The MC version has some wear/battle damage; the regular version is clean (both versions have un-scarred blades).

The MC has a much nicer wooden handle.

Interestingly, the vine pattern on the handle of the MC version is very elaborate, but the simple silk-screening on the regular version actually matches what was on the screen used Sting.

Great photos.

I have the MC and it the only way to go if you ask me. I have seen them available for only $180 shipped to so it can be found for a very reasonable price vs the $750 MSRP.

NICE. I don't have any of the UC swords, but I want them all REALLY bad (it sure does suck having very little money). I like the blade inscriptions on the MC a LOT more than the regular version, but the scuffs in the hilt are kind of a turn off to me since I like cleaner versions better, but the scuffs do give it a sort of "found it at a dig site" kind of feel. I wonder what the MC Anduril and Glamdring look like?

Well unless you have some special inside information (and I hope you do), the MC Anduril is nothing but speculation at this point. Kit Rae mentioned it as the next MC that UC was planning on making but that was ages ago and I don't think that the MC line has done particularly well. I do hope that UC makes it because I will definitely buy it if they do (to replace my regular version Anduril).

As to the MC Glamdring, I think it is another great sword like the MC Sting, and definitely a big step up from the regular version, but the one thing that I personally do not like about it is the bluish tint that they applied to the pommel and hand guard. I can only assume that it is on the screen used sword in a very subtle way and that UC just over did it a bit.

EDIT: Here is a good pic of the bluish tint that I was reffering to (the regular version is on the left, the MC version is on the right).

I agree that the dings and pits on the MC are a turn off for me as well but the overall quality of the MC is so much better than the standard version... still, not sure it was worth the difference in price. :(

I bet it doesn't look that bad in real life, collecters' companies ALWAYS over-do features on their products for promo shoots.

Montagar-- I was only guessing on the Anduril there (I REALLY do hope they make it.) , but I knew about the MC Galmdring. IMO, I don't see the "bluish tint" you were talking about, but I did notice they blackened up the leather quite a bit rather than the blue leather seen on both the film and UC versions. The nicks and scratches on this sword don't look as bad as the weathering on the MC Sting seen in the pics in the above post.

While looking at the MC Glamdring pics, the "random pics" section had a broken Narsil/Anduril pommel pic. Which reminded me of a question I had a while back: I know many reproductions of movie swords have threaded tangs and this pic and others prove it, but how did they pull off Narsil, Glamdring, the Witch-King sword, and others on the films and make them work if you can't see the peened tang on the pommel tip?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Seth
