MR UK Exclusive Stormtrooper Helmet - £49.99 inc (22/4/08)

Re: MR UK Exclusive Stormtrooper Helmet

Is there any difference between the fibreglas and the ABS version. On the pics the ABS looks like the Fibreglas. If the only difference between them is the missing stand and plaque i will go for the ABS (the same material as the originals ). I see no reason to spend so much money for the LE version. What's the opinion of the stormi experts here ??

Re: MR UK Exclusive Stormtrooper Helmet

Hi All
I´m a long time "voyeur" of this amazing forum.
However, I first wanted to make my entrance when I had something constructive to add. :rolleyes
So here goes:
The MR CE Stormtrooper helmet is being offered at the www.toy-palace.com
in Germany. Excellent seller, by the way. They sell to everybody, and dont pull the same BS Play.com does.
It sells for 99.90 EUR. Which is about 9 EUR cheaper than Play.com.
It´s a 500 pieces limited run, so there are 500 slots to be filled so hurry up...ups sorry 499 slots. :cool
And shipping only costs 12 EUR....so here´s your chance

DO IT!

The LE and CE are totally different helmets.

Different moulds, different materials, different production technique, different pricing, different styling (Hero v Stunt).

Its like comparing the Rubies $100 Vader with the MR $500 Vader.

Check out my site (MR section) for more details on the differences

"Its like comparing the Rubies $100 Vader with the MR $500 Vader."

Yikes! Is the difference THAT significant?

I have both the Rubies $100 Vader and the MR $500 Vader helmets. If I were to relate these to cars, the Rubies would be a cheap used Dodge Neon and the MR would be a brand new Acura TL.

On the MR stormtrooper helmets, wouldn't it be a fairer comparison to say that the ABS CE would be a new Chev Malibu (pretty good but reasonably priced) and the fibreglass LE is the Acura TL (pricey but they pulled out all the stops for great quality)?

I find it hard to think that the ABS CE is so poorly done that it could be fairly compared to the awful Rubies Supreme Vader helmet. Further, your own web site suggests that the CE helmet is a good piece for the price.

That's a pretty long list these days.

:lol true....

By the way....Today I recieved my MR CE Stormtropper helmet from Toy-Palace.com.
I ordered it Monday night!!!! And boy, is it great! not at all like the crappy Rubies or Don Post... WOW :love
For a so-called "budget" bucket this is absolutly amazing.
I felt like a kid again, who just watched the first minutes of "A New Hope", seeing the troops storming the Tantive VI......

Re: MR UK Exclusive Stormtrooper Helmet

Got mine today - from the same source. I know the true movie prop
collectors will scream in awe but I've always favored the illusion rather
than the limited movie prop reality - still respecting all accomplishments
made by the crew of the films under the given circumstances.

This is almost the helmet I've always dreamed of as if it came right from
an imperial armory. No asymmetry as in the movie prop but still true to
the original intended shape unlike symmetric replicas before - thx to 3D
scan and retooling techniques.
Of course there are issues that need to be worked over to get in a
state I'm longing for but it's a tremendous base for that price.

I think I never got so much for so little in this hobby.

For a budget helmet it is really a blast compared to its predecessors.
It out competes Altmans, Don Post and Rubies in all aspects - shape,
detail, material, features.

Things I'm going to change to achieve a more realistic touch:

- better lenses
- reworking tear and trapezoid sections
- blue decals on the sides
- grid mesh behind the teeth
- slightly brighter grey
- reworking the ear details
- reworking the mouth
- changing the interior padding for better fit
- getting dirty ;)
- - ksssht- electronics - ksssht-

Darth Niob asked whether there was any difference between the LE and CE apart from stand and plaque.

IMO there's a huge difference. Not sure how you'd express this as a car but the closest comparison I could suggest was the Rubies CE and MR LE since the helmet type, material and manufacture are all totally different.

I'd not call the MR CE Stormtrooper or Rubies CE Vader "awful" or "poor". For their price they are both nice helmets - however my point was IMO they dont stand up well against their LE equivalents, not least against a decent fan-made version

Re: MR UK Exclusive Stormtrooper Helmet

Personally I applaud the decision to have a high and low end helmet, Ive got the 'budget' helmet and for what it is I am very impressed, yes its symetrical, yes its made of about 5-6 pieces, yes its not 100% accurate but it really does stand head and shoulders above any previous 'budget' helmet and as Ive mentioned before it could even be trooped in, having not seen the higher end MR trooper helmet I cant comment I can only go by feedback from those that do own it and the responses seem to be favourable, at the end of the day its each to their own and I am 100% happy with my first MR purchase!! :thumbsup

Re: MR UK Exclusive Stormtrooper Helmet

The comments I am reading here confirm my suspicions. They are:

The budget stormtroooper lid has a lot going for it. For the price, its actually reasonably or very accurate, reasonable to very good quality and it can be upgraded with reasonable effort.

I'm also familiar with the Rubies Supreme vader helmet. However, its quite unlike the MR budget stormtrooper lid. As a ROTS helmet, it is highly inaccurate, moderate quality ( ie, the poor lenses), and upgrading it is a major undertaking - most who have tried it have not been able to make an acceptable ROTS helmet from it.

So, I'd say that MR hit the bullseye with their budget Stormtrooper lid. Rubies however, missed by a country mile with their Vader lid.

I dont think either hits the bullseye!

Like I keep saying, MR's CE is a fine helmet but would need a lot of work to make it really accurate. Same with Rubies Vader. I dont see how you can extort the virtues of one while damning the other.

At the end of the day theyre both low-cost, reasonable accurate replicas. I think you should leave it as that

Re: MR UK Exclusive Stormtrooper Helmet

You said "At the end of the day theyre both low-cost, reasonable accurate replicas".

Yes, I agree.

But, it seems to me that every time I visit a Vader costuming board and the topic of the Rubies vader helmet comes up, most of the comments on it are negative. And some are VERY negative.

But in scanning through this thread, people appear very delighted with their budget Stormtrooper helmet. That's quite unliek what I've sen on the Rubies Vader

So, perhaps its better to say that, yes, they're both low-cost, reasonable accurate replicas. But perhaps MR did a much better job on their lid.

I'd base that comment simply on the glowing comments on the budget MR here.

Cheers!

Re: MR UK Exclusive Stormtrooper Helmet

Got my helmet today. It looks good for the price and I'm very pleased. True, there are a few things, but lets all remember.......off the shelf perfect is a "never goona happen" scenerio! EFX Collectables needs to pick this up when they go online.
