MR TOS Enterprise - new pics

It's interesting to watch the new CGI FX added to the remastered Star Trek TOS episode "Doomsday Machine" and note how they've interpreted the grid lines on the top of the saucer hull. Their grid lines are VERY faintly scribed... and, (am I seeing this right?) - not as many concentric circles? Almost like large panels that are tinted grey and white... I really like the overall look.

I notice they do recreate the grid lines on the UNDER SIDE of the saucer section... and they look pretty cool too.

BTW, Phez, open your box already. You're killing me. :)

News from the MR board...

Amy reports....
"We do have the replacements unit in stock. We had to break them down into replacement sets, replacement units, replacement display stands, etc. This took a few days longer for our fulfillment center to complete then I originally thought. Replacements for the SEs and Commemerative Editions should start going out tomorrow or Friday. The LE replacements will be going out next week."

Replacements... ok, fine. How about all the rest of the folks waiting for their LEs? My feeling on this at the moment is that this will always be the luck of the draw, no matter if it comes in February or June... I sympathize with those who got theirs and sent them back, but there's lots of folks waiting who haven't had the chance to send theirs back yet. :lol

LOL

that's the spirit.

At the top secret MR assembly headquarters:

"This nacelle looks good now we need the starboard nacelle, anyone find a good one yet? How about the saucer?"
"No that saucer has a crack oh there's a good one."
"Someone toss me the glue."
"Crap the decals fell off."
"You put the nacelles on backwards."
"Oops sorry."
"Hey all we need is a good deflector over here and this one will be done."
"Looks good except for a few dings and scratches here and there. Ship it."
"Is the Impulse Deck gap big enough on this one or should I widen it some more?"
"Are the lights supposed to do this?"
"What happens if I pull on these wires?"

Here's a pic of my Enterprise in her new case. Came out nice I think.

More pics and info on the case is in this thread:

That's beautiful. I'm getting one of those here soon but I think I will give it a bit more vertical clearance. Plus I want to be able to use the lights while it's in there so I've got to make an extension cord for the plug.

Great case, it really adds to it. Is that a custom table it's on?

I'm no longer a fan of cases for props. That said, I don't mean to insult you. I think your case looks very nice and you should be happy with it. And I do understand the need for a case if you have small kids who would want to touch your model and possibly damage or break it.

But I don't have small kids. And I find the case gives a large prop collectible an even larger and bulkier profile. Besides, I love getting up close to the model and being able to examine every detail, and, yes, very carefully, touch and examine the model (yeah, I know about the dangers of oil from my fingers). Even better if I can rotate the model on its base.

For my old Icons X-Wing I put its Death Star base on a lazy-susan turn table so I could rotate the X-Wing and position it differently according to whim.

I'm SO glad the MR Falcon can be rotated into different display positions. I adjust the angle of my Falcon almost every day. Which would be a pain in the ass to do with a case cover.

Cases do keep the dust off -- so that's definitely good. But these days I actually prefer to display my collectibles without the case. Wondering if anyone else has come to this conclusion? Where do we stand?

Alan

The whole display is great but the top is a little too close to the ship. Is there any way you could raise it up a bit, Rico? Maybe build up a fram around the base the plexi can sit on to raise it up a few inches so when you look at it, the corners don't distort the view?

I agree, I removed all the tops from my prop displays so I could have easier access and less space taken up by displays. I do understand why someone would want to use them but I prefer not to.

On the subject of cases - to each his own. I don't plan on dusting a $1K+ replica.

Here's another view:

Again, all pricing, shipping, dimension info that I used are in this thread:

Looks good.
Only thing I would think to do is add a brushed aluminum "floor" as to match the other MR TOS stuff.

Got my SE yesterday and it's one of the better ones for sure, only 1 small crack in the saucer, not enough to return, everthing else is very nice. I would consider returning it if the crack was any worse, it's very small, and i would be concerned that the replacement would not be as nice.

It is not called Dusting,

it's called ' Weathering '. :p ;)

I just got my pre notification e-mail that my TOS Enterprise is on it's way to the MR distribution center and should be available to ship on March 20th. While that's a ways off, I'm excited just the same...

Hoping my replacement comes from that batch.

Six weeks so far.
