MR Rocketeer Helmet NOW AVAILABLE? Are they fixed?

I was skimming over ebay and noticed a couple MR Rocketeer Helmets listed, checked MR's website and seems they are available again... this true? I looked here and other places, and didn't see anyone talking about them yet. So.... who's gonna be the first to test out the helmet and see if they fixed the problems? I have the resin version that is a MUST HAVE, but having the MR metal one would be a nice addition to the collection.

Yeah, I noticed a lot of these showing up on ebay in the past week since that last thread started. I was wondering what was going on - if it's some backstock being posted for sale or if they are new. If anybody is getting one, please post pics.

Somebody posted in the Junkyard that they were getting their shipment soon and would post pics.

MR supposedly waited to the helmets were in N.J. before telling anyone they had them.

Smart move considering what happened with these the last time.

I see some sellers on ebay have them in stock already.

It will be interesting to see how they look know.

Cool. I can't wait to see the pics. The images on the MR site look pretty good.

i opened mine up. i got #0748. it doesn't state what the total edition size is. no pictures yet. i'm still at work. i'll be leaving in the next 45 min but i couldn't wait. overall i am very happy with it. initially i was a bit concerned regarding the metal finish but realized this was meant to be a weathered looking helmet. (besides AFBB doesn't exist in the movie. lol) that said mine looks a lot "cleaner" than the other pics i've seen posted here on this forum. the lenses are tightly fit with no spaces. i noticed that the leather strap on mine is a lighter brown than the ones i've seen. no biggie just an observation. the "welded" areas aren't as messy. it's still looks hand made in the sense that it wasn't built on an assembly line. there are some small bumps and bruises which gives it a nicely worn/used look and feel to it. i'm sure you hard core guys will have a field day with my pics but as a casual fan i am very pleased with this prop. pics soon.

oh i almost forgot. no bugs in mine. :)

I am wondering in "fixing" them, did they try to more accurately reproduce the lookof the original with a wider faceplate? I don't want to order again until I have seen pics of the real deal.

First off, just to note again... I don't mean any of this to bash the MR helmet. I actually really like it and it's a dang good buy for the money IMHO.

Thanks for posting the pics p1xar.. :)

All that said... Yep, still totally squished. That is assuming there aren't other helmets in this "batch" that were done differently. There were a few in the first "batch" that weren't quite as mashed from side to side.

Looks like a couple of details have improved judging from those pics but the worst problem was the width and that's still just as off as it was originally.

I'm pasting in a photo below showing some comparison pics... the helmet on the left is supposedly the hero helmet used as the pattern from what we've been told. I don't know anything about it and the lenses look to be photoshopped in (not to well either) but it has all the tell-tale signs of an original hero and serves as a good comparison regardless.

In particular, note the overall shape and the shape of the air intakes. That kind of bothers me as it seems that detail shouldn't be that hard to do better. Eye opening shape is still off too but not many would notice I don't think.

The welding lines are just like before - it's just a type of brass rod (or something like that) that has the dents mashed into it. It works okay if you don't look too close. Would have been cool to see real welds but I'm sure that's probably impossible to do, or to at least do remotely consistently from helmet to helmet.

Overall finish and weathering on the new helmet looks better actually and on the back where the side moulding lines join with the bottom of the fin - that area is much cleaner than the ones we saw from the first 'wave' (or whatever you want to call it.) That spot isn't 100% accurate but it looks better finished this way considering the way they are making these out of metal.

I'd say it's improved in the details but not improved at all on the big issue which is the width.

Oh, and a little trade secret for folks that take pics of Rocketeer helmets that I learned the hard way from taking a LOT of pics of the ol' fin toupe - back up as far as you can and then zoom straight in on the face. It'll reduce the optical distortion and you'll get a better idea of the width of the helmet on the resulting pics.

I asked this the last time if I recall, but is it possible to bend the sides out more??? I know this would be next to impossible depending on whether it's thick brass versus other metals.....I just wondered if it would be possible or if anyone had tried it???

I don't believe so. It's not technically mashed in the sense it got squeezed in shipping. It's made that way. If you pull the sides out, the front to back direction will likely warp badly and you'll just deform the helmet in another way, not to mention risking other damage (and possibly meaning you won't be able to sell it or get your money back afterwards). It'd also require considerable pressure to bend I suspect. It's pretty sturdy stuff.
