MR Falcon

Here's a few pics. The last pic that shows the pole is from the San Diego Comic Con International display piece. We later ammended the pole mount to make it lower without the ugly thick collar, so the Falcon is closer to the mirror and requires a shallower display case.

Barry, thanks for the pics. Did you ever verify the size of the jack? 1.5mm?

On another note, I just got this email from MR:

------------------------
Dear Customer,

We would like to provide updated information regarding your Millennium Falcon
Signature Edition order. The Millennium Falcon Signature Edition is expected to
arrive in our warehouse at the end of November and we expect to turn around and
fulfill your order by early December. The original communication you received
stating that the Millennium Falcon Signature Edition would be shipping to you
on November 15th was incorrect. Please be assured that your order will be one
of the first ones to process as soon as we receive the inventory. We apologize
for the confusion.

Sincerely,

Master Replicas

-------------------------

I didn't order an SE.... :confused Although, I wouldn't turn one down at an LE price. Har, har... :D

Seriously, though, what's the delivery schedule difference between the LE and the SE. I thought the SE were coming later than the LEs. Last I heard the first round of LE are shipping the week of December 4.

Oh My F'in God.

Its really gonna happen... :eek :confused :D :love :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

I can't wait.

Thanks for the dimensions, Barry. Cannot wait for the beauty to arrive.

No problem. I can't wait for the Falcon to get into the hands of customers. Hopefully they'll be as delighted as I was the first time I clapped eyes on this baby.

Thanks for the pics, Barry. Is that a factory sample? A one-off paint job for the con? I don't recall any of the paint masters we've been shown previously looking quite so airbrushy.

Thanks again for all your efforts in putting up with us eager tail-waggers.

I think that is a factory paint job...the flash is washing out all the light shading and enhancing the darker shades. I am quite sure it does not look so airbrushy in person.

If Barry is not complaining about the factory paint then it must look great.. he is a Falcon NUT. :D :p

Dean has hit the nail on the head. The Falcon is entirely impossible to shoot with an instant camera with a built in flash. The flash washes out all of the detail and subtleties of the weathering and you're left with the impression of a white model with heinous dark black streaks. Plus it's way too dark in my house to shoot handheald without the flash. It makes Don Corning's ability to capture the subtletly of Dean's paintjob in all those beautiful pictures all the more remarkable.

The factory paint job on ALL of the samples I've seen is well up to the standard set by Dean. Everyone from Dean down worked hard with the factory to ensure the standard he set was followed as closely as possible in production, and Larry Leung is keeping a close eye on production. But we can talk more about that when people actually get their Falcons and hopefully love them as much as everyone who's worked on it does.

This is good to hear as I was QUITE concerned that the photos were representative of a airbrush happy newbie :confused I can't wait to start seeing pics of folks receiving their Falcons :thumbsup

I have seen a lot of pics of the MR Falcon at the San Diego ComicCon, all of the same model. Some of the pictures taken with flashes made the Falcon paint job look very contrasty between the lights of the base colour and the darks of the weathering. The photos of the model taken without a flash look much better and the paint job more closely resembles the 'beauty' photos taken by MR's pro photographer. So based on the fact that it is the same model but looks quite different depending how it is photographed probably means the factory paint job is pretty good ( I am hoping). And I am pretty sure the Falcon at ComicCon was a factory paint job.

The Falcon at Comic Con was a factory paint job, and is indicative of what customers will receive. Bear in mind that these pieces are individually hand painted and there will be some minor differences between them. I've seen a lot of factory paint jobs so far and they've all been excellent.

The Falcon at San Diego needed a tweak (to the antique white/cat's whisker yellow panels) that was made on all of the subsequent samples we received and on all of the production pieces. So she's good to go.

Barry

So, what are folks going to do about a cover for the Falcon? Going to wait until MR offers one? Or going to go get a custom made cover in the meantime? I know I'll want to display it as soon as it arrives. But would like to get something over it.

I'm just debating on waiting on the MR cover or finding something else.

Anyone else been thinking about this?

sorry for being lazy but --

did Barry give out the dimentions of the base? I thought somewhere in this thread he did.

I had a REALLY nice plexi case made locally for my Polar Lights Ent.-A refit build, and it only ran me about $175.00

If I can get the dimentions of the base I can get a guesstimate on a price for a clear plexi cover.

Yeah, Barry wrote...

The Falcon's base is 26.25" x 36". (if it didn't change, again...) The height you will need to give good clearance above the cockpit at the angle the model is displayed is approximately 13" - 14".

coool thanks. I'll zap off an email asking for a price quote on that size.

**** EDIT ****

Just got an answer ---

"The cost on this size would be $141.40"

I'm going to wait to actually see the base and how the plexi case would sit before I actually put in an order.

**** EDIT PT2 ****
this case was using 1/8" plexi

The base has the same lip as the current generation of MR LE display cases, if that's of any help to you. And the dims I gave are exterior dimensions of the base, the OUTER dims of any case.

Barry

The inner lip is 0.27" deep, so you'd be safe if your case used 0.25" or 5mm plexi. 0.125" might be too narrow in gauge for such a large area on the lid surface.

Barry

Has anybody figured the exact scale of the model? I figured it was 1:26 or so but I don't know if that is correct. I would like to know so I have an idea of what other models are of similar scales. Perhaps the Lanspeeder that comes with the Deluxe Sculting book is about the same.

Any news on when the LE will be shipping ? Barry? Im sooo stoked and I cannot wait to have mine. Im gonna spend hours staring at all the details. When I went to the DC Magic of The Myth I spent hours mulling over the 5 footer. I was awe struck by it. So incredible to see a piece of movie history in the flesh...err I mean plastic.
