I wound up finishing this build just prior to the New Year. Not a bad kit, nowhere near Bandai level but superior to the old Airfix kit of yore. I was going to finish it with the orange markings but didn't find a shade that I liked, so I went with the simpler all-white pre-production version, using Tamiya X-2 gloss white over my go-to Stynlrez primter (gray). Testors chrome silver was used on the underside lift thrusters and tiny attitude control nozzles on the sides of the boosters; the main engine and booster bells were AK Interactive Xtreme metal polished silver airbrushed over Tamiya gloss black. I left these last parts off before overspraying the ship with Tamiya TS-80 flat clear, to seal the decals. I read a caveat that the stuff will kill the sheen on metallic finishes, and a good thing I did because my attitude thrusters went from bright silver to dull metallic gray and I had to repaint them.

The dome base it strictly temporary because I plan on mounting this build (and its companion in the aforementioned orange livery) on my wall in a shadow box.

That is absolutely beautiful! I didn’t think I would want to do mine in the white version, but after seeing yours I think I will. Very inspiring!

Agreed, such a beautiful build! Dammit, I really like that ship, now I might have to buy one (even though I told myself no more kits).

Excellent!

I love the original pre filming color scheme! I was torn between that and the orange markings one, but ultimately chose the orange filming markings.

I was going to get another one to do in the original scheme, but may try that with the new 1/48th one they are going to be releasing

If you ever find yourself painting another one, according to this, the original paint used for the studio model was Tamiya Gloss Orange X6

I used that for mine, and was very happy with it

Good to know, thanks!

Oddly enough I'm testing orange & white combos out on plastic spoons that have been primed and shot with Tamiya gloss white. #1 is straight X-6, #2 is X-6 with a couple of drops of X-7 added, and spoon #3 is Vallejo Model Air 71.083 orange. So far #2 is winning.
