Movie- The Human Centipede

But they're NOT eating poo. The digestive tract is going straight through all of them, the "pipe" running from one to two to the third person, who poos. Now, how that works with the stomach, nourishing all three bodies, I don't know. Obviously it's malarky. But look at the diagram in the trailer. Nobody's eating crap.

And yes, YenChih Lin, I was lucky enough to see your "spoiler." I figure, if I ever overeat, I'll just pop that on. Instant bulimia! Did you see somebody got a tattoo of it? Who would do that?!

thats not what the plot section on wikipedia said.... (spoilers below)

aparently there was a mistake in the first attatchment, and poo ends up filling the mouth of the second person, who must eat it to the great delight of the deranged surgeon..... yeah

Really? Are you qualified to confirm this?

I am qualified. While you can technically stitch someone's mouth to another person's rear end, the only part of the 'pede that would possibly have a chance of surviving would be the guy up front. It would be a nightmare (no pun intended) to actually perform, because 'pede parts 2 and 3 would also require general anesthesia for the operation, and you need clear access to the trachea for that.

You would basically have to intubate them through the nose (technically possible and ocassionally done) to "breathe" for them while they were under anesthesia, because you would be permanently closing off their mouth/acess to their airway. The only other way would be to place a tracheostomy tube in 'pede parts 2 and 3, to prepare them for surgery.

Now, having human waste forced into you oral cavity would cause considerable bacterial contamination of your stitches and the fresh wound, and infection would be rampant. In other words, you couldn't make it "heal" right no matter what you did, and the anastamosis would dehisce relatively quickly.

The reason that you never hear about organ donors donating their gastrointestinal tract, is because they don't. The normal flora and fauna that inhabit the GI tract are deadly and when not in the specific areas of the GI tract cause a septicemia and kill people and not in a fun way, they get septic and die a slow painful death rotting from the inside out.

Not completely right. Intestinal transplants are performed (small bowel only, sometimes with panceas. There is no medical need to transplant a stomach or colon, since you can technically live without them.).

A segment of a person's colon is commonly used as a new esophagus for someone who has lost their esophagus do to cancer, although a gastric "pull-up" is more common. Interposition jejunum is also used to create a neo-esophagus.

How close have I ever gotten to all of this? Well....

In medical school I was involved in a gastric pull-up procedure. In residency I had to remove someone's entire small intestine and colon, secondary to gangrene. We kept them alive for a few more months on IV nutrition, but they were never able to eat again.

Beyond common sense I don't think any further substantiation is need.

100% correct.

I must have a big time screw loose, because that makes me want to see it even more. Hey, if you're going to watch a deranged movie, you might as well go all out. :cool

Just wanted to thank "blewis17" for the great info. That was very much what I was looking for. To me, it would just make it that much creepier if it were actually possible. I have no ties to the medical industry thus my asking.

Ridiculous - I can't watch this movie now. :angry:angry I don't understand why movie writers can't make movies that are believable anymore!

I only watch movies that are actually plausible - like star wars, star trek, blade runner, MIB, Judge Dredd, Terminator, Aliens, Knight Rider, Airwolf, Rocketeer, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, Superman, Batman, Spiderman, x-men, Dracula, van helsing, Frankenstein, Nightmare on elm st., freddy vs jason, ......

.... let's face it boys long gone are the days when plausible airtight stories fill the big screen.

I know!! What is the world coming to!! :lol

For some reason, this movie seems particularly twisted, even over your modern day hack-n-slash flic.

well im guessing the premise is that this "surgeon" is a quack and "thinks" he can pull off the gastric system operation by just simply sewing their asses and mouths together, but really thats all he does... just a deranged "what if" fantasy with no real scientific or medical benefit or success... just wanton cutting and stiching for the hell of it. That of course IS possible and the thought of a deranged man, which do exist, with the tools necessary to do such a thing is just HORRIFYING to me.

He cuts "horns" of flesh from the butt cheeks of one person and sews them into 'wedges' cut out of the (face) cheeks of the next person. Presumably involves removal of the anus as well, and maybe the teeth or jaw of the next person in line.

How is that supposed to heal even in ideal circumstances? They're different people; they'd need massive doses of immunosuppressants, as in a transplant. Right?

The person/s down the line would also rapidly dehydrate, unless constant diarrhea was induced in the first person. They might regain consciousness after the surgery, but not for too long I think. This would basically be a particularly horrible and slow (ish) form of murder.

Can't believe I watched the trailer, TBH. Did find it disturbing. If someone wanted to do this just as a short-term horror show, it might be possible. Let's hope nobody takes it as inspiration.

How did this thing ever get made?

Oh! Yeah, of course. Haven't watched them, never will. Gimme cartoon violence any day of the week. :)
