Movie Posters in wood

My latest project with my carving machine is to convert movie posters into wood carvings. My first attempt was pretty bad. I had to go back and heavily modify the poster image so that it would carve well. I plan to "faux" bronze this one.
This poster is about 14" x 20"....version 3 will be full scale for modern movie posters. I kind of like this size, though....easier to carve and more will fit on the wall.

I'm working on some others now. The labor is in converting the image properly. It's kind of "bizarro" world...I can't just make a negative of the image and have it carve properly...for example eyebrows and dark hair end up being lower than the face...so they actually have to be reversed (lighter) than the face. Here is a "small" version for reference.

man u rock the same poster i was thinking of
sweet ,now that is stuning keep them coming mate
any chance on done some runs's of certain posters\carvings?

Right now I'm working on getting the best quality carve I can from each poster. It takes time to tweak the original photo to get it to carve well....In my Star Wars render, you can see that luke's face needs work...as well as a few other spots.
This process is not like a "laser engraving" so it's not that crisp...at very close range it's not as detailed.
I'll get this one painted and show some close-ups.
I just don't want anyone to have expectations that the machine can't handle.

Movie posters carved in wood? Great idea!!!
When you cover it up in bronze it will look like kind of commemorative plaque.

If only I had a carving machine... :cry
Can you give us some info about it, pleeeeeease!

I know a guy who did something like this on the sides of the crate he hauls his Radio controlled R2 around in. Its not all carved, there is a lot of paint involved, but it is partially routed in 3D.

Meshcam sounds interesting. I'm going to check it out.
That droid carrier is awesome.

I should have the pics of the "bronzed" one done this weekend..and hopefully the version 1 star wars.

Wow!! This is really cool! Are you using a CNC machine? What are the tooling dimensions for your machine?

Keep em coming!
