Mother of Pearl liquid solutions needed. . .

I'm trying to find a liquid that's not too thick that looks like mother of pearl -- I tried bath soap, but it's just too viscous. Faking liquid with resin would be fine too, but I honestly have no idea how one would go about creating a mother of pearl resin.

Yeah -- I admired your work on that bad boy -- and followed the advice thread from earlier. :D Unfortunately, I can't apply a faux finish as it's the inside of a bottle (with a VERY narrow opening). I'm trying to create a pearlish liquid as opposed to a pearl finish.

Any good fine-art store should carry a selection of powdered irridescent pigments and binders. You can mix your own. Maybe use a clear mineral oil as a carrier, if you need to see it swirling in the glass. There's pearlescent cosmetic and automotive pigments available too.

To echo Jayn's cosmetics suggestion, what about plain old nail polish? I've seen it in whitish/pearlescent finishes that looked fairly good "as is" in the bottle.

Well, unmentioned problem number two is that the bottle holds 500ml.

I was imagining something small. 500ml is something akin to the size a coke bottle.
Would it not be possible to get a large amount of pearlescent powder and mix it into some clear liquid soap or glycerin? That way the powder would remain suspended in the mix and not sink to the bottom.

Um...maybe lots of nail polish? :lol

Artist's pigment worked perfectly. I'll post pics of the bottle in a few. So that you can all know that the question is prop related.
