Mostly Hardware Obi ROTS/ANH Hybrid

First, looks great. I have the same Hasbro saber and I had thought about the same type of conversion. Glad to see someone did one, it gives me inspiration !

Second, same comment as before, I wish your pictures were bigger !!

Thanks again. It turned out a little better than my first shot at it. There's still a few things I may add or change, but for the moment I'm satisfied.

It's kind of funny though. All the ROTS sabers we've seen built from ANH parts, and I do the opposite. I make an ANH styled sabre from ROTS parts (mostly).

And the size of the pictures are, unfortunately, dictated by the Pagebuilder program through MSNtv.

Well, looks like that satisfaction was short lived. I decided to shorten the neck between the windvane and the emitter by about 1/4". No updates to the page, as it looks about the same, save that quarter inch.

I'll probably build an entirely new neck/windvane (with fins in the windvane) in the future, but for now I'll let it sit. There's a few other projects I still need to get to.

Your background makes it difficult to read anything on your website!:confused

Sorry. I thought the "rivets" background was cool, and it looked okay on my end (but WebTV displays things a little differently than the average PC). I changed the background to plain ol' blue. Hope that helps.

Any further questions or comments about the saber?

I've updated the page with a couple of pics of the new neck/windvane assembly I built for the saber. I went with the actual "vanes" of the ANH design, rather than the solid ROTS version.

With few possible exceptions, I think it's done now. But then again, is any Obi saber (particularly the ANH) ever REALLY done?

That is really pretty durn cool. I know there are limitations with what Webtv can do, but if you had some higher resolution pictures, I wouldn't mind clicking on over to a Photobucket site or something to look at them.... ;)

I'm all about offering suggestions for other people doing work. Heh, heh! It looks pretty cool, though!

Hey, if you want to email me your pics, I'll host them and post them in this Thread for you no problem.

Honestly I'd love to see some better pics just because I want to do the same project myself and it looks like you did a killer job, so you would be helping me out !

Thanks, that's a generous offer, but there's two problems:

First, though not insurmountable, is that I can only e-mail one image at a time.

Second, and this is probably the deal breaker, is that I upload and e-mail the images via my WebTV box, which only has Audio/Video inputs. I choose my digital camera/camcorder specifically for it's a/v ouputs and compatibility with WebTV.

Even though the image's native resolution is 2304x1728, what I send you cannot exceed the NTSC standard of 480i/640x480 (72dpi). What you get may be bigger, but the resolution will not improve. Sorry.

But thanks for the offer and the encouraging sentiment regarding my work. Should you embark on this journey, I'll offer what advice I can but the images, as you know, will be sorely lacking.

Just dug up this old thread. Now that I can post pics, well... Pics are coming! (That sounded wrong, what I mean to say is they're on their way)

A rebuilt version of the first one I built.

With machined pommel and emitter.

Being rebuilt again.

With a 3-D printed wind vane.

A comparison between the original toy and completed saber.

I've got a few more of these and a pommel and emitter ready to go. I'm thinking about building another one and documenting the process if anyone's interested in a tutorial.

I would, it'd make for a useful stunt hilt. The one with printed weather vane is remarkably good - in photo's a least.

What are you using for the emitter/balance pipe?

What are you using for the emitter/balance pipe?

It's PVC pipe, plastic tube, a 1.25" bearing for the flange, and a Tonka truck wheel insert for the "ring of holes" (in my "Hardware Obi ANH Emitter" thread, which as I type this, is in the related links below).

The pommel is completely hardware too, by the way.
