Thanks for posting that comparison pic Vortex Runner, that is very interesting stuff! What is the smallest one next to the Wesco?

That is the mini torch released sometime in 2009? I think
it is very small but is actually quite durable
(notice in the comparsion the wesco has no emitter cap and the battery casing of the journal version is not there!)
I still love the wescos shape more than the other toys (I mean replicas) and its screw in the back of the later batches makes it look and feel more like a prop replica!
I took the comp pic as many people elsewhere had wanted but by no means is this a comparison of accuracy as this photo shows toys, replicas and the likes of which have been mashed from different props and made to fit to the needs of small children!

I have to say my favourite version is the MFX but I like the CT ones colour and sound (maybe I will just have to carry every version of the sonic so no one misses out on what the screwdriver does! :) :lol

VortexRunner, can I ask what you prefer about the MFX over the CT?

I think its the sahpe and overall gleaminess of it. The MFX one ages alot so mine doesnt look too far off one of the props (paint missing in places and the aluminium has sought of tarnished a bit since when I got it!

and I think the fact goes that it is licensed and was made by a team who worked on Doctor Who, So when people ask, they run around screaming with amazement!:lol:cool

I can see the appeal in that. I just hope the tarnishing doesn't continue too much! You'll end up with a Smith & Jones sonic!

Not sure I would agree there but that's cool :thumbsup However, since when did Russ work on the show? :confused

OMFG!!

Someone pass me the shotgun now!

I wonder if Weta has to put up with this kind of **** over their District 9 props?? I really hope not as it would be a shame to see another vfx house pull out of offering replicas.

I meant to say that it was a team associated with doctor who, Russ's involvement doesnt change it's status no matter what people say.
I own a classic series russrep sonic and love it!:love

The actual light on my sonic is going now so am sending back for repair!
I have a box full of sonics of which resemble the smith and jones ones - especially the CO Chris Ecclestone which has no emitter head! :lol

So I guess this particular question is NEVER going to be directly answered. :unsure

I've seen it asked a bunch of times and danced around, but NEVER addressed!

It's just after the (then) exchange rate, shipping and credit card finance charges, I dropped $492.00 US on it. I was sort of hoping for .....perfect!

That and the two really nasty grind marks on the clear neck part that came on it with the (third) replacement, that I just decided to deal with. :unsure

At least the light works.

I never thought that when I originally started this thread it would incite so much hostility. It is too bad though, that the MFX version was so expensive and all it did was light up. If they are NOT going to be making anymore it seems unfair that they won't allow others to make them. Especially here on the RPF. It is a very nice looking pen light though.

Talking about the MFX sonic ONLY incites hostility now. It's one of several reasons I'm pulling away from Who props/costumes.

Neill's post is superb.

Pastor - calling it a 'very nice looking penlight' is baiting IMHO, and will incite hostility.

Sorry, no intent to bait, I just thought it looked like more of a pen light. Afterall, it's re-design did drastically depart from the original design of the earlier doctors. That's no reflection on the guys who made the MFX version. I wish I could afford it.
All those involved did a great job to make the MFX SS, just wish it wasn't so scarce and cost prohibitive.

Why? From everything I've read, it seems that if straight answers were given to the questions put, everyone will be happy. Kind of like politicians dodging questions all the time, you know?
