Here's a reference:

Unfortunately, the reference photos I've found are all in black and white. I know the original had a wood stock, but was the filming prop all back or was the stock painted with a wood grain finish - specifically the prop that Han Solo carried on the Death Star?

Later 34's had a black bakelite stock like the 42s.
From the photo it appear to have smooth finish of a bakelite stock, not a painted wood one.

So the stock should be black or brown?

I know that the Kobold flash (droid caller) was partially made of bakelite, which is a black, glossy color, but plastic can have any color desired.

Thanks, guys. ;)

I would go with black or maybe a dark, dark brown. These had to be castings the way he threw the gun to Chewie although you can see holes in the barrel shroud, so maybe it is the real deal with the barrel taken out? The bipod appears to be dark brown for some reason though.
