Metropolis Robot Completed!!! Aug-18-2011

Just watched your video on Youtube. I've been following your project for a few months and I just wanted to send you kudos for your work. I've been working on a miniature of it, so I saw your project when I was hunting through the internet and on RPF for reference material.

One comment I had was on the helmet-to-faceplate connection. I believe on the original the helmet was attached to the faceplate after it was tied on. Part of the support used were two pairs of metal support posts at the temples that were riveted to the helmet and acted to keep the helmet on the proper position on the faceplate. I didn't notice these on your version.

Are you aware of the Kropsercle Maschinenmensch costume project underway? I hope they will finally finish it, and also their 18" replica which they say they will be offering for sale. I have the Masudaya figure, but hope that Kropsercle's will be a bit more accurate. I like the face on the Masudaya (except they didn't quite get the hint of a smile) but the body has some design issues. I've also seen a more recent miniature, but I thought the face on that was pretty unspectacular.

I sympathize with you at your not being able to keep the fruits of your labors. I hope at least that it will be stored where others will be able to see and enjoy your labors. Kudos again.

I thank you for the compliments!

And I assure you that the metal posts you speak of are indeed present. In fact you can see me setting them in place near the middle of the video. For this I embedded magnets into the mask at the proper points, and the posts are steel 3/16" drill-rod that attach to the magnets and are resting in holes hidden in the inside of the top of the helmet.

Sorry, I'm an idiot: I missed the part in the video where you were putting them in. I see them in all your stills.

For mine, I'm bonding them to the helmet when I get that far. I see 4 sets of 4 small rivets that attach the supports in the reference shots, and I'm adding that detail to the helmet. I've seen pictures of other builds where the artist missed the connection between the rivets and the supports, and had them located apart from each other.

Mine has been put off due to steady work, which for me is a very good reason.

Have you seen the restored film? That was my motivation to make my version (which I do not at all equate with yours in simple cool factor.)

It was done by a company in Germany for their equivalent of the Oscars. Tried to contact them, but no replies. (btw my avatar is that same robot version)

did you send the email in german? if not they might have just deleted it.

the side view and a little of the rear should be on that video, however, who knows how they decided on how it looked.

Their site hasn't updated in ages, if anybody wants to try it, just message me, I'll get you all the coordinates and info.

what multi media company fails to update it's main website? they are out of business, or have been reduced to just a shell corporation. at least that's what i figure from the clues. the good news is,if some poor nobody owns the company, and they still have that suit in say their garage..... then they would probably sell it cheap. not that i want it, but that would be the silver lining here.

I am a devoted admirer of Metropolis and the vision that it represents. The robot Maria is one of the best machine creations of its type anywhere. That said, in regards to your re-creation...simply beautiful! I am stunned. She is perfect. A truly great result. Just wanted to express my admiration for your work. :thumbsup

Thanks! She's a real heartbreaker.

I finally got somebody on the phone on this subject, turns out the costume has gone missing (assumed binned) much to the sorrow of the creators.
