Message to "all" recasters (RESULT Page 18!!!)

why can't we get rid of the OT all together. granted I enjoy the OT just because of the stupidity of it all. while hearing about someone's divorce , death, dog dying, truck getting fixed , or the endless stupid MM threads are all fun , they have nothing to do with props...but that's just me.

You're certainly not the first to suggest removing the OT but i've never understood the argument for doing so, it's not like anyone is forced to use it, if someone doesn't want to read it or use it they dont have to so why remove the option for those that do ?

Believe me if it weren't there you'd see lots of pointless OT posts filling up the rest of the board.

The various generations of RPF staffs have tried many things in the past 10 years. The OT really is ultimately a necessary part of the community for a variety of reasons.

For one thing, if you don't have it, the prop forum winds up catching a lot more OT crap than you might imagine. Then keeping OT stuff cleaned out of the main forums becomes a full time job (yet another thing the staff have to deal with.)

Not to mention the OT forum really is a very good community building tool. Prop threads are great and are obviously the primary reason the RPF exists in the first place but you don't really get to know people when you're just discussing individual props. And like it or not, getting to know weird people, their weird senses of humor, weird philosophical viewpoints and their weird viewpoints on whatever the hot button topic of the day is is actually a big part of shaping the cohesiveness of the community. It helps folks move beyond just being online acquaintances into being something more akin to real world friends.

I'm just leaving if members start making out with each other though because that'd be creepy.

rubbing latex and resin all over their hairy bodies...

I agree with Rylo. I prefer to see waves of enrollment, it allows people to lurk and read old posts while waiting for the window to open again, gives them a sense of familiarity before jumping in.

I had been waiting for over TWO years before I could join. I somehow always missed those rare windows of registration openings.

I always thought that the closer to a window of open registration approached, it was posted up top as a warning reminder. I might be mistaken though.

See... for me, a statement like this is simply heartbreaking. That is two years worth of interaction from alan that the members of this site missed out on and if he had the fortitude to continue to come here for two years while we continued to more or less tell him "sorry, we don't want you" he obviously is the kind of person we want here. Again, while open registration does allow in a few undesirables, I can't help but believe it is allowing in a lot more people like alan, many of whom which might not have been willing to wait two years and we would have lost out on their contributions to this site forever. And before any of you old timers try to tell me how newbies should have to earn their place at the table, please remind me how many hoops you had to jump through to become a member here... for many who are complaining, the answer is "none." For years and years and years this site had permanent open registration and many of those who are complaining the loudest came in with no limitations and also came in at a time when a lot of scum and villany was alllowed into the site.

Re: Message to "all" recasters

It's plainly wrong for someone to steal something you have put great effort into stealing in the first place. Haven't you people seen the Italian Job??

Thanks Art. During that time, I used to frequently visit the RPF, pouring over threads. When I finally did join, I already had a VERY clear indication of what the spirit of this site was all about.

Darn, ya mean we almost had a shot of keeping you out of here and missed it? :lol

ya missed ...... :cool
