I think he just lives in his own world at this point and thinks we are all just stupid...

"I am sorry, and I certainly didn't mean to bother you. This is NOT a fraud. I'm just trying to carry on with my small business because I am now unemployed and I have to support my family, having left MRG back in May 2020. I had to take out a personal loan to be able to purchase the remaining inventory of MRG from the trustee and I am just trying to recoup the funds so I can pay the loan back.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT:

I need people to understand that I did NOT create a scam or a fraud here. I and my family worked for this company for three years and we all took a pay cut to work here. We all believed very very strongly in what we were doing and we were excited to get such an amazing product out to the public. Unfortunately, other people had other ideas. We have numerous witnesses and documentation to prove that neither I, nor our employees, had anything to do with this.

I created a document summarizing some of the unfortunate events that transpired while I was at MRG, and I have shared it with many people. If you would like a copy, I would be happy to give it to you... just let me know. Hopefully, it will clarify some of what happened.

I also worked very hard to make sure that none of this would happen, but my ex-partners had other plans and I was simply out-maneuvered at every turn. These are dishonorable people who had a different agenda (apparently from day one.)

To this day, I do not understand why they would want to intentionally wipe out a successful business and cause so many customers to lose out on the product for which they paid. My mind simply doesn't work that way. All I wanted to do was get the customers the product that they paid for.

I spent three years fighting with people to do that... that's not how I envisioned my career going. And now I am unemployed because of their deliberate (IMO) sabotage. And it is unlikely that the customers will ever see their product. This is a horrible situation and it weighs on me painfully every single day.

Right up until the end, I felt very strongly that we were going to complete the HAL project and get them all shipped. We paid engineering consultants and the factory in China enormous amounts of money for design, development, tooling and to actually start production. The money did not go into big paychecks for anyone. All the money went to manufacturing, overhead, and the typical things needed to run a small business for three years.

Unfortunately, my ex-partners refuse to communicate with me in any way and I've had to hire a lawyer. I found out that the company filed for chapter 7 on the Internet as many other people did. They didn't even inform me, or give me a chance to input or vote on anything. This is a massive violation of our company bylaws.

MRG filed for chapter 7 on October 16th against all of my efforts to stop it. We had a board meeting back in April of 2020, where I presented numerous plans to reorganize the company and get the product finished. I also clearly stated that I absolutely refused to agree to bankrupt the company. I also clearly stated that I absolutely refused to agree to bankrupt the company. I said that I would not allow MRG to “burn the customers.” One of the partners replied: “Steve, we are going to burn the customers.” The partners insisted on bankrupting the company. I was out-voted and could not stop them, as I was never informed of any subsequent meetings after that date. They filed for Chapter 13 (and subsequently Chapter 7) without my knowledge or agreement.

I am so sorry this has happened. I literally have no words to express the pain I feel right now for everyone. If you can get a refund through Paypal, or your credit card company, I urge you to do so.

We are working on a plan to resurrect the project. I am waiting from approvals from several people. If we can do that, I will be personally raising the funds to complete the project and get the HALs shipped to all of the customers who we didn’t refund before MRG filed for bankruptcy. (I refunded as many people as I could before I resigned.) My partners had their lawyer send me a letter to stop doing that, BTW...
I will let everyone on this mailing list know as we learn more and if we can move forward."

Steve is asking people to trust him. I don't see that as likely. ;)

Well it’s a long shot but I suggest you put in a claim. The link is in the post #214 above. I assume you still have your receipt ?
Sorry, for late reply. Haven't been in this thread for a while. As far as I remember, I did a direct transfer from my bank account and not via a credit card. So probably SOL on getting any kind of refund, regardless of a receipt. And I doubt Steve will be able to come up with a similar amount to the US$500,000 or whatever it was to restart this project as he states above and get HAL to those on his list. I will have to put this down down to a sorry, eminently forgettable experience.

Yea I don't think a refund is likely with a wire bank transfer.

In the 90's SteveD bought a couple pieces I made that were scratch built. Years later he sold them and I had seen them posted on boards like the RPF by the new owners. The new owners were pleased and under the impression they owned scratch build "one-offs" made by SteveD himself and therefore a more valuable item because they thought he made it. I told the new owners I made the pieces and they didn't believe me(sure, I take credit for other peoples work. lol) I take photos of my work and when I presented the photos to these guys they were obviously disappointed. I guess SteveD was ambiguous during the sales as to the origins because in both situations these guys were firm believers that they had his work. After the case of the first item i contacted SteveD to discuss with him on how the first buyer was under the impression that he made the prop. I wanted to clarify if there was a misunderstanding or if he was taking credit for my work ...and he was dismissive as if he was too important to be bother with talking to me.

There was a time he was broke(I'm guessing) and i forget how I was on his mailing list of stuff he was selling over a few months time. Action figures and lower dollar items was what he was selling for the most part. I didn't mind being on his mailing list as i wanted to see if he was selling off any more of my old works.

My only other dealing with SteveD...
I bought a MR ST(TOS) P2 from a guy on ebay for over $1000. The emitter didn't extend and retract and the case was damaged(I found damage to the case was hidden in the photos after seeing it in person). The seller said he was a pal of SteveD and said mail the P2 to SteveD for repair since SteveD worked for MR. I sent it to SteveD as suggested and contacted PayPal who put a hold on the money. SteveD contacts me and tells me to take the "hold" off the money with paypal or he won't return the P2 to me when he is done repairing it. I told SteveD he wasn't involved in the sale, only the repair. SteveD came across pretty full of himself and browbeating and saying "what the hell" about my choice to contact PayPal when it was none of his business. I told him and the seller I wanted a refund and that I would inquire to see if SteveDs and the sellers demand constituted coercion. I got my refund.

In my first hand experience he comes across as dishonest and full of himself as if he is a diva movie or TV celebrity.

Hope everyone gets their money back.
The Bankruptcy Court Eastern Pennsylvania is handling the Ch.7 proceedings. I'm not holding my breath that they recover enough assets of MRG that creditors get their money back. Steve is selling things "out of his trunk" that should be turned over to the bankruptcy court. Shameful.

So, I received this email today.

Hello and welcome to the SD Studios MARCH Mailing!

Welcome NEW list members!

I put even MORE super-cool, rare pieces up for sale this month! E-mail me for pics or more info. Payment can go to sdstudios@aol.com Payment plans are always available and negotiable. (pricing is generally…less-so). If you see something you want, let me know a payment schedule that works for you!

THIS IS IMPORTANT! SD Studios has now officially acquired all of the assets of MRG and we will hopefully be pulling the HAL project back from the dead and get them back into production and delivered to the MRG customers. Step 1 was to acquire the MRG inventory. Step 2 is to get WB to sign-off on the approval (I have already sent the proposal) and Step 2.5 is to raise the remaining capital to fund the production. (We have a potential source.) The inventory acquisition was a key part of this funding process. What MRG did was WRONG and I am doing everything in my power to fix that. Please stay tuned!

Nothing says trustworthy like an @aol email address.

It's funny to me when programmers make typos - it explains why operating systems and applications work the way they do.

(I too am a programmer.)

I did it again. I'm typing on a tablet and it makes it very easy to make mistakes.
