Master Replicas First Contact Phaser: Taken Apart!

Hi all,

so to preface this, normally I would never risk taking apart a prop, especially one like a Master Replicas phaser, but when I received this it had a small scratch on the emitter tip.

Rather than risk getting paint on the body, I wanted to know whether the phaser could be taken apart so that I could re-spray the emitter in a flat black color to match the black around the buttons, and boy can it! As the following pictures show, the First Contact phaser disassembles quite easily from the handle to the electronics assembly.

You can see here how the little LED assembly in my hand fits inside the emitter (above the 2 holes are 4 more that screw the white LED module into the emitter, and the 2 holes hold the module into the body) The little yellow rectangle on the handle goes in the emitter, in front of the white LED and makes it yellow!) The speaker is attached to the back plate that goes behind the emitter. I hope someone can derive some benefit from this little project, I for one would be interested in gutting my phaser to put in improved electronics!

Spraying the emitter was pretty simple, a small rod on the inside allowed me to hold it while putting on a few layers of Games Workshop Chaos Black primer.

Oh, god. Please tell me you can get to the buttons. Can you replace them with something that doesn't make such a loud awful 'click'?
