Yeah, 3D modeling is super easy to get good with, and CNC machines are pretty much like EZbake ovens, right? :lol
Honestly, I think the background knowledge and practice necessary to build things this way- not to mention the expensive overhead- easily justify the impressive speed and accuracy. It's a design tradeoff, like lots of things.
disclaimer: I make stuff this way and suck at traditional sculpting
I see this as merely using a tool that I have at my disposal. I've learned it, become skilled at it, and stored it in my repertoire as a skillset for perpetually improving my propmaking hobby.
Agreed. You'd better believe that if I had access to the tools that you do, I would be making my rifle this way too. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to teach myself some 3D rendering skills. Until then, I've got the belt sander.
So I've done a LOT of work on this rifle in the last 11 days, but there is still much to do. I'm not going to be able to finish in time for DragonCon so I'm doing a quick and dirty paint job, and then just finishing it afterward.
There are still a couple barrels to install and decals to be attached, but this is by and large, the M7.
