Mass Effect 3 Ending, opinions and feelings?

That makes a damn sight more sense than what those two bozos at bioware came up with when they hijacked the ending. I wonder if they're still in hiding. I haven't been over to the social network.

It was all about the semi-magic of the Mass Effect, ie, the mysterious and ancient Mass Relays. It was even in the TITLE. As civilizations grew up and started using the relays, the dark energy buildup from their use started to swell. Because of that, there was a failsafe: at a certain point, the higher dark energy levels would set off the Reapers to attack and destroy the civilized societies. Otherwise, the suns would go out.

The final decision, I read, was for Shepard to destroy the Reapers, trusting the current cycle to figure out a way to stop the dark energy buildup in the galaxy... or sacrifice all of humanity to fix the problem once and for all.

Ok, I do admit that I may have gone a little crazy when looking for fuel supply depots and just bouncing off of every relay I could...

Apparently Drew got shuffled off to be a writer for SW:TOR. ME3 suffered because of his absence, and TOR is underperforming.

How's that working out for you, BioWare?

And I hear that a good chunk of the Dragon Age III team has moved to TOR. Bear in mind that their panel had a bunch of "Tech promises" that sounded very sincere and positive. Bigger, more diverse (i.e. less recycled) world, choices that matter (They're on their knees thanking the gods they weren't a part of ME3) and outfitting your allies again.

I always loved watching Leliana go from those simple robes to full fledged heavy armor. It was so cute!

Still, i've made a commitment that unless there's same-sex relationships in TOR, I want none of it.

I beta tested TOR and hated it, and believe you me, Star Wars is one of my most beloved franchises.

ME is another one of those franchises. I was disappointed with the ending, but in a kind of crappy cookie cutter way, it did wrap up the trilogy.

Speaking of which, isn't there supposed to be some DLC for extended endings out tomorrow?

Yes, the Extended Cut comes out tomorrow. They're already lying that they made the DLC because they saw a chance to expand upon the ending rather than to save face in the PR ****storm that arose from the ending.

Should be entertaining either way. Either it will be an improvement and everyone goes on their merry way, or it's more of the same and we see if the Retakers still care enough to rage a second time. I'm debating going through the last two stages again just to refresh me for the changes.

Dragon Age 3 is going to bomb, between DA2 and ME 3 confidence in bioware is low. Even if there is some closure with this DLC i'd take it over the end now but i'll never buy one of their games full price again. Neat trivia: The ship in ME2 that Jacob's dad is on is named after a 1920s Pulp scifi magazine publisher. I didn't realize that until i was reading the history of scifi cover art from 1840 to 1940 and there was Hugo Gernsbach as an important person in the early scifi magazines.

Good news: They added a new "Refusal" ending!

Bad News:
It's death for the whole galaxy and the darn star child changes his mind AGAIN by saying "The cycle will continue".

You know, if there was ever a need to get players to work for getting the best possible EMS rating, this ending should have been it. Instead of the galaxy being destroyed by the Reapers, the fleet should have been gaining the upper ground against them. But no, this ending is the end of the galaxy regardless of EMS and Liara's hidden messages says that this was a mistake. I know the Reapers are supposed to be tough, but didn't Bioware play the game? We took out Reapers with freaking CAINS! Two-handed guns that can be carried by regular humans!

One ending down, three to go.

Watched all three extended endings. Well, even though they did kind of shine a turd, it's still a turd. They were right when they said they were just expanding on the endings that were in the game and thus completely discrediting the indoctrination theory.

Differences:
1. Before Shepard shoots, runs or touches the two prongs to trigger the ending, the flashbacks to the characters will be different. For example, Destroy will show EDI since that choice will kill her.

2. New cutscenes of the Crucible getting ready to fire while Admiral Hackett orders the fleet to retreat to the rendezvous point after the Crucible has been activated. This is supposed to explain why Joker left Earth. Though why the fleet would retreat if nothing really harmful happens to everything else around them like the soldiers on Earth is never explained.

3. New cutscenes showing the Assari, Krogan and Turian home worlds being liberated. I'm having Return of the Jedi Special Edition flashbacks.....

4. The whole Normandy getting sucked into that weird portal is handled a bit differently. We see other crew members being made aware of it through their panels and such, but nobody says anything about it. This is where the only big improvement for the endings*happens when the cutscene no longer has that ridiculously goofy shot of Joker looking behind him as if he was he was looking directly at the portal.

5. The Normandy no longer breaks apart when the Portal catches up to her and the ship makes a rough landing on the unknown planet instead of flat out crashing.

6. EPILOGUES! For the
- Destroy ending. We hear Admiral Hackett give us a voice over on how we finally defeated the Reapers and how the relays and the Citadel are being rebuilt. We cut to future images of what happened to the rest of the crew like Wrex having a baby and Jacob teaching a class.
- Synthesize Ending. We have EDI giving narration about how wonderful everything is regarding how everyone is working together and has glowing circuits and glowing eyes. Even the husks are happy to be there!.... This just makes a the ending much more sillier. SYNTHETICS DON'T HAVE DNA YOU IDIOTS!
- Control Ending. Shepard takes the reigns of the Voice Over for this part. The weird part about this one is that Shepard talks like he/she is a completely different entity that acknowledges the old Shepard as a different person. So with Shepard controlling the Reapers, he/she has now officially becomes BOB THE BUILDER as the Reapers to rebuild worlds, the mass relays and the citadel.

7. After the Epilogues, we cut to the Nomandy as the crew place Admiral Anderson's name on the memorial, and Liara places Shepard's name above his. If you chose the "Synthesize" ending, this moment is ruined when you realize that everyone has glowing circuits on their faces and glowing green eyes. After that, the Normandy takes off from the unknown jungle planet. Are they lost in space? Still in a familiar solar system? Different dimension? We don't know. It's all still very pointless. Also, how did the crew know that either Anderson or Shepard were even killed when they fled? MORE PLOT HOLES!

8. (GOOD DESTROY ENDING ONLY) Shepard still wakes up from the wreckage for a gasp.... somewhere. None of the epilogues acknowledge his/her survival.

9. The Pedophile Buzz Aldrin is still here in it's complete, unaltered glory. Even his "sweet" child is still a very small looking adult.

10. The ending message no longer says "BUY DLC!" but simply ends on the "You can continue to build that legend." There's also a bigger message thanking the community for helping BioWare out in creating the Mass Effect trilogy. Hooray! We helped ruin Mass Effect!

Wow. They actually came closer to changing things than I imagined. To be fair to them that sounds like a pretty big attempt to mitigate the stupidity of the botched endings. But then I was expecting something that pretty much made them worse across the board, lol.

I've not yet played ME2 or ME3. My question is this:

Is it worth it to invest the time at this point? I heard that the way ME3 ended it basically invalidated the notion that anything you did earlier made a bit of difference, or at least made no significant difference. The notion that you'd build the story over the full trilogy and could have vastly different experiences if you did full multiple 1-3 playsthru was essentially undercut by the end of ME3 -- or so I heard.

So, are the endings better now? Is it worth it to play, or should I just skip it and not waste my time? Bear in mind, I'm a big believer in the notion that a crappy ending ruins all that came before. If you disagree with that point of view, fine and dandy, but try to offer comments with that in mind. I'm asking whether someone with the "the ending sucked, and it ruined the whole thing" would find ME2 and ME3 worthwhile.

No. They're just longer. All the problems that I and many others have had are still present. In fact, two of the three epilogues just make the endings sillier.

It does. This ending will literally have you thinking back to the previous games and wondering "Why isn't this being brought up?". Everything from the plot twist involving the Citadel, Haestrom's sun, everyone who was ever on the Citadel, ect.

I'm asking whether someone with the "the ending sucked, and it ruined the whole thing" would find ME2 and ME3 worthwhile

If you play ME2, you'll at least be playing a Mass Effect game that was written by writers who knew what they wanted to do in ME3. It's just when you get to ME3, all of those writers left and many story, character and plot points are completely ignored, retconned or just slightly referenced as not being important at all. It really does feel like a different team made Mass Effect 3 who never played the previous games.

Oh, wow. This gets even better!

Turns out the run to the beam that sends you to the Citadel was extended as well. Just when you get to the part where you're supposed to be blasted, your team mates get injured. Shepard runs towards them, and calls the Normandy down for pick up (!). After getting onboard the Normandy, the ship takes off RIGHT IN FRONT OF HARBINGER'S FACE yet the leader of the Reapers doesn't do a darn thing.

Also, Admiral Hackett gets a report saying someone made it to the beam so....

I didn't want to spoil myself for what was coming, but couldn't resist. After almost not spoiling myself for the ending the first time I wasn't willing to take that chance.

Sounds like little more than I expected, information that should have been there in the first place. Though obviously with the attempts to justify the character assassination they just made a few things worse. Are the clips of the space magic still exactly the same with just a color shift, or did that get tweaked as well?

Okay, played through it just now. Huh.

Well the pick-up for your squad members was a nice moment for me and my LI. Really nice of Harbinger to just completely ignore the Normandy for the time it was there so they could get away safely, that's so generous of him. -_-

Okay, so now StarBrat is even more the mouthpiece saying that Synthesis is the best option but contradicts himself by saying you can't force it on organics? Did he forget his meds? Impressive that BioWare made that option worse.

Oh yay, painted slideshow -_- I'm also seeing a lot of black screen, did I not earn some slides or is the DLC buggy? Guess I'll have to watch the ending on youtube now.

Sounds like I have no real reason to break the plastic on that ME2 box, nor to buy ME3. Well, this saves me some time, at least.
