Mask of Anubis bio

Woah I didn't expect that last picture with the gold crown. I never thought a Pharaoh's headdress could turn into a bio helm and look good but this one's pretty neat. I like it!

Thanks guys.

I thought that I needed to paint one this way no matter how it turns out. I wasn't super thrilled with the aluminum/gold color I did on my frig magnet but I'm really liking how the metallic black came out.

Both bios could probably use a little more or better weathering but I'll probably always say something needs tweaked.

So I went and made one last casting out of my masks mold. The mold was on the flimsy side and I saw an opportunity for improvements. Mainly in how everything was had formed. I used up the last of my Task 8 (the yellowish) and the Onyx (black) and thought it came out a bit trippy. I used my Smooth-Cast 321 on the inside build up the thickness for handling. This will be my new master. I like doing this because I got to experiment with mixing my 321 with Ultracal to form a paste, or to at least thicken it up.

I went out of order on the filler and I hope it doesn’t bite me in the ass too hard. I started with the glazing putty and thought I could get away with it but as I sanded I knew otherwise. So I got the primer out to get a good visual and realized I had some work to do. This is with a skim coat to get some of the surfaces flat and remove some of the inconsistencies I’m finding. Over all, I’m really happy with how this holds up to my scrutiny.

I made them, but I don't sell them. There just wasn't enough interest for me to keep pursuing it. So I have been giving one away with each blade order.

I didn't see this bio before because I was away in Europe . . .

It is veeerrrryyyyy sweet. I'm likin' it a lot. I particularly like the blue trim--it's very eye-catching.

Big thumbs up. (y)

And the little facehugger dread rings are sweet too.

It's all good, the painted pics are from 01 Sep 2010. Out of town a while? :p This thread is going on 2 years old too.
Thanks for the compliments.

made007, I'll PM you shortly.

After years of working on this paint up... I'm ready to say that I finished painting it.
The final form -may- get clear coated but this is the way I like this one... a lot. :D
I used acetone on a rag to buff the edges 'till the gold worn through. The lense is a sheet of 3M static sheilding bag. I touched up the gold with a littl black and added a touch more gold in the cheek to help the contrast. The pics at Phoenix Comic Con turned out great. This is not to say I won't revisit the new master copy but I may resculpt it to fit my up and coming mask.

Thanks guys!

The base coat is gold and the top coat is metallic black. It was an accedent when I figured this technique. It's really just rubbing off the top coat.

Wow, awesome bio and paintup! It's great to see some Ancient Egyptian themed bio's, as i love ancient egypt and Anubis! Great job cant wait to see more :D
