I just watched the teaser once and while I'm kind of tired of superheroes in general, if the concept is interesting in terms of how they use the genre to tell a story, I'm open to it. I'm not necessarily excited about this movie because my knowledge of the comics is very limited to what little I knew from my childhood, but I am intrigued by the concept of this movie of a technologically advanced and evolved people influencing ancient civilizations from earth.
It looks more subdued and the tone of the trailer is what interests me because it could sort of reestablish that sense of wonder to the genre by framing all the fantastical elements of superpowers through the perspective of the ancient earth civilizations who would view these superheroes as godlike. In that way it could make superhuman feats appear fresh to the audience and that will serve the story well and will help the longevity of the brand as a whole. I like that it doesn't give away plot elements and is more interested in establishing tone which feels fresh to me than just a bombastic rush cut of action set to melodramatic music like most trailers we get in this genre.
From a design perspective I'm not keen on the costumes being hyper stylized. I get that comic book movies are known for this type of thing but it would be nice to see more pared back designs. It's just a personal gripe of mine and extends to most movies in speculative fiction so it's not a severe criticism of this movie. I'd just prefer to see more functionality to costumes in general than stylization, even if they are trying to pay homage to their source material.
I'll have to watch the trailer again but I'm intrigued by it for sure.
