Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Maybe not actively looking for it, but I don't think it's a stretch for Tony to have JARVIS monitoring S.H.I.E.L.D. for whatever reason (paranoia, mistrust, general screw-the-man authority bucking). As much as Extremis is popping up on the show Tony may have feelers out for that.

You have a point there but that's also assuming that S.H.I.E.L.D also issues press releases and/or releases the names of the agents involved in anything that becomes public knowledge. Tony could be hearing all sorts of stuff that we've seen happening on the show but still not know about Coulson simply because there would be no mention of him or his team, just the fact that something happened and S.H.I.E.L.D. was involved in it.

Tony has hacked S.H.I.E.L.D. before, and surely Coulson's name is on some report regarding these Centipede incidents. He's probably the one making the reports, so unless he's using a fake name on his reports it shouldn't be that hard for Tony to find something fishy.

No doubt Tony'll be interested in the fallout of Thor: The Dark World, which Coulson's team is going to deal with too. With as many street cameras as there are in London I find it hard to believe Coulson won't be recorded if he steps off the Bus. Unless S.H.I.E.L.D. is monitoring those in real time and removing the bits with Coulson in it proof is going to be fairly accessible to Tony.

I just don't see how Tony can be ignorant of Phil's return unless he doesn't care one wit about what S.H.I.E.L.D. is doing in regards to aliens and/or S.H.I.E.L.D. is covering up every trace of Coulson being alive short of putting a bag over his head and not calling him by his name.

He could still be a LMD or clone. The scar would have to be added to the body, cause there would be no way of explaining the missing scar.

I said as much, but the issue with a fake scar is that if you go to a non-shield doctor for some reason - they'll spot that it's not a real scar quickly.

The morbid/ominous line from the pilot gives the impression it'd be horrific if he found out - what would be horrific? Well, if he wasn't actually coulson mainly. Robot, LMD, clone, brain downloaded into someone else, etc, and it's just his memories that survived. That scar would be major plastic surgery.

If he's suspicious, best thing to do is get checked out by a completely random doctor with no government connections at all.

Is the female doctor in on the secret though? If she's not, then she'd work too if there's anything 'off' that she can find.

Frankly Tony should already know, unless S.H.I.E.L.D. is covering every trace of Coulson's return well enough for JARVIS not to notice some chatter, or a file with his name on it, or a street cam observing him.

I don't think Stark cares... to him Coulson's first name was 'Agent'. Besides Tony is freaked out enough as it is without adding the walking dead.

Maybe the thing "he can never know" is what it took to bring him back. Maybe he is really Coulson, and is really alive, but someone had to do something really desperate to bring him back.

That's exactly the line of thinking I have been exploring. Perhaps someone had to make a great sacrifice to bring him back

About this Asgard theory, what make people think they can bring back the dead over there ? Odinsleep is just a way for Odin himself to recharge his power, but not sure it would do anything for anybody else not wielding Odin's power, and I don't think it could do anything for a dead guy.

The fact that he is actually in a too good shape for his age is another clue, but to where ? Is there a Marvel version of the Lazarus pit by any chance ? Because it sounds more and more like he took a bath in there ...

Newsflash!!! An episode of Shield that was actually quite good at all levels!!!! The writing teams can take more of a break if they continue to produce more programmes that show this satisfying level of improvement in quality.
Against all odds and all probabilities I ,dare I actually say it, enjoyed that particular chapter in the on going saga of Shield. Why exactly? Because, for once, they got two things absolutely right.
Firstly they had a mystery that was actually quite interesting and relevant from the POV of the SHIELD backstories, so very well done on that. It’s still a bit of shame they could not have got it done in time to coincide with Halloween ,considering the beginning, but I’m not going to argue to hard about that. I was just very pleased that the overall tone was dead right.
Secondly, and most importantly ,we got some actual emotional honesty from the cast and the writing that made them relatable to the real world. They felt so different to previous episodes I actually didn’t believe I was watching the same people (till Melinda Kung fu’ed the barn door down sigh).
For a spooky moment I thought the writers had actually been reading this thread and were going to off one of those annoying scientwits, I didn’t care which. Yet, low and behold, they actually made me care enough about them here to not to want one of them to die. The Coulson/Simmons scene was excellently done because it felt spot on for both of them. The same could be said for the Coulson/fireman in the station , that’s the Greg we were looking for ,who, lets face it had seemed rather robotic through the series so far, intentionally or not.
And stand out of all of them for me was the Coulson/Melinda heart to heart about his medical. That was a marvellous scene ,again, touchingly true, it moved both the characters forward and it helped move the mystery a little more forward to closure.
Interestingly for anyone who has seen Thor ; The Dark World the answer to Coulsons healing doesn’t seem to lie with an off world jaunt to Asgard anymore. One character suffers a death exactly like his and there was no way they were coming back or could be saved or they would have been. And dozens of Asgardians suffered similar injuries during the Dark Elves fight and they definitely shuffled off this mortal coil. So the healing rooms theories are way out.
Hopefully it will be revealed sooner rather than later and the series can keep improving.
Still no cigar, but I was actually lit a candle as a sign of hope. This episode made the grade. Thank you.

Thor died in the first movie and was brought back to life either by the hammer or something else. I think that's where that theory comes from.

Awesome episode! Characters are starting to fill out more. Love the EMP bit.

Catch the line about Coulson "acting like a robot version of himself."

More mystery around Sky. Interesting!

What's up with Coulson making that call at the end? Definitely something unusual surrounding the Coulson mystery. And he mentioned a magical place again earlier.

That sandwich sounded delicious!

I didn't much care for this one. The device plot seemed like it was filler. I just realized that after watching every episode I still don't know half of the characters names. I really liked last week's episode. This one, not so much. Take away the last five minutes and it really had nothing to offer.

This episode was a little better than previous ones. Suspenseful and some action. I'm glad that we're seeing more of SHIELD.

My impressions:

1) Elizabeth Henstridge is rapidly becoming the breakout star of the show. She's just so adorable to watch.

2) I'm glad to see Mishka- I mean Fitz getting some character development, and the interactions between him and Ward were well done.

3) More mysteries surrounding both Coulson and Skye. I like it.

4) The "conversation" between Coulson and May was hysterical, as was her frustrated eye-roll at the end of it.

5) May is starting to warm up bit by bit. I like it. She still clamps down when she needs to, but that's okay.

6) I think that Agent Hand didn't bother with an extraction team for Ward and Fitz not because they were deemed expendable, but because she knew that Coulson and his team would come up with a better extraction plan than anyone else could think of, all on the fly. And yes, the hover-bus was awesome and predictable, if a bit on the silly side from a structural integrity standpoint...

7) Oh, that conversation between Coulson and Skye at the end was well done on BOTH sides. Maybe there's some hope for Chloe Bennett as an actress after all.
