Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

My impressions:

1) Elizabeth Henstridge is rapidly becoming the breakout star of the show. She's just so adorable to watch.

2) I'm glad to see Mishka- I mean Fitz getting some character development, and the interactions between him and Ward were well done.

3) More mysteries surrounding both Coulson and Skye. I like it.

4) The "conversation" between Coulson and May was hysterical, as was her frustrated eye-roll at the end of it.

5) May is starting to warm up bit by bit. I like it. She still clamps down when she needs to, but that's okay.

6) I think that Agent Hand didn't bother with an extraction team for Ward and Fitz not because they were deemed expendable, but because she knew that Coulson and his team would come up with a better extraction plan than anyone else could think of, all on the fly. And yes, the hover-bus was awesome and predictable, if a bit on the silly side from a structural integrity standpoint...

7) Oh, that conversation between Coulson and Skye at the end was well done on BOTH sides. Maybe there's some hope for Chloe Bennett as an actress after all.

Agreed on all points. This show is really improving in my opinion. I have less nit-picks with each new episode.

A few of my thoughts on the ep...

1) Skye has never really bothered me like she has most others, until this episode. I guess it was the (not trying to be political here, just making an illustration) liberal media-type attitude of 'We all have the right to know everything & the public MUST know all secrets, no matter who it may harm'. I despise that & felt like she really showed her immaturity in this one.

2) I'm not too familiar with the female-in-charge character from the comics, but I know she's supposed to be a tough one from what I've read. I'm wondering if the no extraction plan was a set-up all along that she'll later use against Coulson. She seemed to have a little bit of disdain for him in general. The fact that Sitwell seemed to not be too upset at the end made me feel like something had gone according to plan.

Lastly, I have a friend who travels & I'm DVRing the series for him. He asked me last night how it was going, since he had heard some less than stellar reviews from folks he'd talked to. As I was trying to explain what I liked & didn't, without giving any spoilers, I think it hit me...

This show gives me the same vibe as a prime-time show from the '80's. Sorta like a 'Greatest American Hero' or 'A-Team' vibe. Something that would've been on at 8:00. Maybe with just a little bit more serialization & mystery added in. Kids would love the stuff that the adults roll their eyes at, & even though the shows were cheesy at times, they still pulled the adults in enough to stay on the air for a little while. It's the type of show that after being popular for a couple of seasons, ABC would then turn into a Saturday morning cartoon.

(SIDE NOTE...Anyone else remember the prime-time preview show that the networks used to run to get you pumped about the new Saturday morning cartoon line-up? Then you'd have to get a TV Guide & try to figure out which shows you were going to have to pick & choose to watch?)

That's how I described it to him & he seemed to get where I was coming from. He feels like he's going into the show with the right kind of eyes.

Last night's episode still not getting good grades but it wasn't as painful as prior weeks. Next week's episode is supposed to be connected to Thor TDW though from the preview there doesn't seem to be a very solid connection :confused It'd be nice if they can throw in the Jotunheim beast into that episode somehow.

I think the show is improving. In regard to some thing said earlier about a price to bring Coulson back. In the original Thor they had to take one of the Asgard warriors to the "healing room" after the battle on Yodenhiem (spelling).

Any guesses who Sky's parents are?

With the way Tony likes to party, he's got the odds on his side at least :)

I'm wondering if perhaps that in order for him to be healed, that someone else had to give up something - immortality or their life or something - or the were able to use the life force (or whatever) of one of the invading aliens to do it.

skye is getting annoying. I don't think shield would take having their computer hacked by her so lightly. I mean stark got away with it but he is Iron Man not some annoying hacker girl

Kill off skye... and the show will be a lot less annoying. I still see no reason for her to be there.

Coulson is great... and unlike the first 1-2 episode where it was 'too much Coulson', they toned it a bit down and it's great!

I walked out of the room about halfway through... couldn't stand it after the girl tazed agent whoever...
Skye's insistence on knowing what was going on was driving me batty. Add to that how they just let people wander around "the Hub" as opposed to isolating them in certain areas... stupid.

I think what bothers me most about this show is the super secret spy agency is less secure than a Walmart. Even though it's meant to be funny, the meme that shows the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo on EVERYTHING really drives this home. I don't know if it's Whedon's lack of knowledge of anything on the subject or just trying to not get overly technical on the details.

The other thing that bothers me about this show... I couldn't give a rats ass about any of the characters except Coulson and maybe the asian pilot chick. All of the others... suck. The "ready, shoot, aim" tough guy agent... he's too pretty and not tough looking in the least. Looks like he was pulled off the set of a daytime soap. The nerds... too nerdy and yet so clueless about who they work for and everything how they should carry themselves. Hacker girl... I can't even figure out what her purpose is.

Everyone just seems way too lax and chill about everything.

I really wanted this show to be good and I really wanted to like it for the source material as well as being a product of Whedon, but I'm pretty much ready to see it go away unless they make some serious changes soon.

Any guesses who Sky's parents are?

I can't really bring myself to care enough to even wonder.

After the last episode I asked my wife if they'd hired the writers from Rip Tide.

Ok...I spent about an hour last night reading up on all the info I could find on The new Cap movie. I'm not giving out any spoilers, but from what I've read, A LOT of things folks don't like, especially about this episode, may be setting up TWS. I will be a happy man if it's true.

Even if it's true... it's a pretty lame excuse.

'It's dumb and irritating but but but we'll mention it in the next marvel movie for like 10 seconds!!!'.

I love when they connect the show to movies and movies to movies, but you can't abuse it. The new Thor did it just perfectly.

just watched Tuesday's episode. The engines are VTOL!! As I wished for in post #439, woot woot!

I've said my piece about how ridiculous that concept is in reality, so I won't belabor the point ... But May's manipulation of the individual engine to blow all the evil commies away was so awful I think it gave me cancer.

I'm not 'meh' about watching this show. They've dumbed it down and Disney'd Marvel to the point of nearly alienating the core fanbase.

Oh you mean how there's no way, even if you sold your soul and firstborn to Satan, that a C-17 is gonna he held aloft by six VTOL engines on the wings that have a single point of contact that happens to be a hinge, and that the wings would be sheared off due to the weight of the fuselage, causing the body of the plane to crash down like a fat man doing a belly flop in a three inch pool?
