Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Also, I'm a bona fide sucker for continuity. I LOVE continuity. Seeing and hearing the references to the previous movies, the helicarrier, gamma radiation, the red-glowing exploding humans from Iron Man 3, battle of New York. I just love it.

Don't get me wrong I loved the references too, but damn, they could have spread it out over a few episodes or at least throughout the episode not all the name drops in the first 10 minutes

It's off to a good start and I quite enjoyed it. I feel the real secret about Coulson won't be revealed until the next Avengers film, but they will keep hinting about it in the show.

If Coulson is a Cyborg/Android/Robot I'll be dropping the show. With that said, I found the show to be... meh.

I enjoyed Alphas and I LOVED heroes. I really wanted to see more of a drama about mutants, super-powered individuals and a shadow government agency that focused on the people employed in that agency.

I liked the humor in the show. Ie, Coulson coming out of the shadow and then joking about the light being out and trying to be dramatic. Show was ok. Will watch. The girl they "recruited" from "red stream" or whatever, the main young girl that they are inevitably going to hook up with the newly recruited male agent is freaking gorgeous.

I thought the pilot wasn't bad.

I'm probably in the minority, but I really prefer the series not focus as much on the “superhero” aspect of the franchise. S.H.I.E.L.D. is more than just the support team for the “real” heroes. It would be more interesting if they showed the broader range of responsibilities (e.g. espionage, MIB-stuff, etc). The series has the potential to enhance the world in which the Marvel characters inhabit. The early Nick Fury comics were more espionage and less costumes – and that’s where I would like the series to go.

I understand they need to do some superhero material, but too much supe-stuff risks saturating the audience to the point of fatigue. It also would risk derivative comparisons with shows like, Heroes.

My wish is less of the supes and more of the espionage. Right now it's a possible hybrid of Heroes, X-Files, MIB and Mod Squad.

Colson is just a LMD. I don't mind so much except I wish they hadn't made it so obvious - "He doesn't know, does he?"

Some of the exposition and tie-in references were a little heavy-handed and awkward, but it could have been worse.

I don't like dialogue that interferes with my suspension of disbelief - the worst line: (before leaping out a window) "This is an origin story."

Verdict: Hopes are high but guarded. Given the supposed last-minute (literally) rewrite it's still relatively cohesive and the actors are uniformly promising.

I thought the show was a decent setup for a season. For everyone complaining about it not being the same as a movie...No kidding. Smaller time frame, smaller budget, faster production. Expecting the same as you get out of a major blockbuster film on TV every week is pretty unrealistic. I figure it'll take four or five episodes to hit stride, until then I'm reserving judgement.

And in response to an earlier comment:
^ Mulan ain't aging well, that's for damn sure. Why they casted an Asian actress pushing 50 years old for this kind of role is beyond me.

The word is cast* not casted. 50 isn't that old, and she still looks pretty good. Also, slightly racist.

I've always been indifferent about Ming-Na Wen as an actress, but I think she actually looks great. I really had a double-take because I wasn't sure if it was her.

And they could avoid needing as many expensive FX.

They appear to know exactly what they are doing. I have zero complaints. Cant wait for the next episode.

This show could be a great way to introduce characters that dont have their own movie, as well as some great minor characters, even if just for a quick teaser cameo.

Ms. Marvel
Wasp
Luke Cage
Dr. Strange

The issues I had was the constant struggle between the A and B storylines - and the backlot feel many scenes shared, Marvel certainly has enough money to put into the side spinoff of the Avengers. Coulson's return story was just plain stupid. It played like a less fun MIB.

Hated the delorean-esque ending of the pilot. why rip off the BTTF ending? is that a thing with his car now? I thought for a second he would do the "Road?" line at the end. c'mon SHield, there's only 1 spot for a cool flying car, and "lola" isn't on the list

I didn't need the BTTF revelation but, in Marvel's defense, Jack Kirby introduced this in the S.H.I.E.L.D. Comics long before Robert Zemekis made his movie.

No doubt it was developed by Stark

:rolleyes
I find it hilarious you're pulling the racism card on me since I'm Asian. Let's just agree your standards for Asian women are much lower than mine, and leave it at that. Buh-bye now.
