Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Frankly, I am surprised no one here yet has put together Shield going after a "rouge computer group" while the next Avengers movie centers on a rouge computer system by the name of Ultron. ;P I think they have the story line leading up into the next set of heroes and plot just fine.

I think that marvel has a much larger vision for every one of these hero movies and now this series than anyone here can see.... I won't claim to know what that is or how it is going to play out. But you get small glimpses of it all coming together from time to time...

Example. The fling car that Howard stark spoke about on CA:TFA, now we have a flying Corvette.

Ultron is said to be a corrupted version of Jarvis, rumor, yes, but it would make sense after IM3. Remember when tony landed in the snow, Jarvis says "sir I seem to be malfunctioning" and then tony blows all of his suits up, and the last scene is tony driving off with You and Dummy... Now we have a computer hacker group that can hack into Shield its self?

I would say it all makes a neat little bow in the end, we all just have to sit back and watch and try to pick up on the clues as it goes...

Finally managed to watch it. I liked it. Had some very interesting nods, but also some nice future "exploration" themes. Looking forward to more.

I hope its not Jarvis. He wasnt that aware in IM3..... when asked about taking care of things eg intruders and media Jarvis says 'theres only so much I can do'. I doubt he could take on the whole Avengers if damage control was too much.

Also. Jarvis was malfunctioning as part of the broken suit. I imagine the actual jarvis is still cloud stored. So cant see that scene from IM3 being related. As it appears to be due to the suit shorting out and losing power. Which has now been blown up.

Only way I could see is if they go further down the 'uninvented tech' root. And as part of upgrading jarvis possibly while implementing all the hardware in his new digs. Tony makes a truly self aware Jarvis. But I dont think this will be it and I hope not.

I was hoping that Ultron is a seperate stand alond AI. Or else if he was jarvis he could just shut down all the suits. Disabling iron man for the movie. Which will fill me with rage lol.

My thoughts would be tony invents true ai. Builds a suit for it. The ai decides that humans always wage war and are unfit for existence. And decides to act.

They could also easily just make it about tonys controllable suit. Some alien tech based approach could take over the suit. Perhaps tony builds ultron but the personality is other wise installed.
Hey... only 2 years till we find out lol

If we're thinking Coulson is a Life Model Decoy, isn't it possible that HE could be the artificial intelligence that becomes the basis of Ultron?

...unlikely, but interesting to think about nonetheless since the Avengers would be reticent to fight Phil.

At the end of Iron Man 3 Tony Stark has the Arc reactor removed, maybe he doesn't want to BE Iron Man anymore, but invents an AI suit to serve as a replacement but it goes bad? Originally wasn't Ultron created by Hank Pym?

very disappointed in the first episode....over the top cheesy scenes.....the characters are awful.....it screams universal backlot stunt show....

ill probably watch the first few episodes then decide if it is worth watching the whole season

Other than casting Gunn (whom I've never been a fan of), I thought it did alright to get people to tune in. Yeah it was an over the top sideshow at Disneyland, but I don't typically watch Whedon's stuff to feel like I've had my mind turned inside out. He's all about the exposition (and the killing of key characters at the point that I start to identify with them) and dialogue.

Now, if we can please just PLEEEEEEEASE kill off Coulson (since I know it's going to frakking happen) now before I get too invested in wondering if he's a robot/clone, that'd be great.

Well, CSI Shield /Men in Black Marvel was a bit of a disappointment. Unfortunately it felt A LOT like Alphas. Much too much like it at times. But without the interesting cast of characters. Immediately indifferent to the younger cast .Skye???? Wasn’t Summer Glau available, so they got her less talented singer/actress clone instead? The only tech shes ever likely got hacked (off) over in her life was after her parents told her to put the bloody iphone down at the dinner table. And the two of the most irritating and unlikely scientists since “Pacific Rim”. Scientists???? Nobody I really liked to listen to or watch EXCEPT Coulson and Hill and Ming Na brought in only for the karrrrrateeee. Gimmee a break.
They just tried too hard to cram in too much too soon into forty brief minutes so it felt like I was watching an extended trailer rather than a show at times and the pacing was so off. Between that and the adverts I felt it jumped around more than a flea on a hot pan and they could have easily made it into a two parter and I’d have been more interested.
There were touches in it I’d expect of Wheldon but this was a much weaker offering than I expected, but there is time for it to mature as a series I guess. I liked the attempted continuity to the Marvel Universe but couldn’t they have spread it out a little more? I really wanted to like it but it just kept hitting my off button, particularly that big speech at the end then the head shot that wasn't. Hugs all round ending? Brave New World? Seemed like a tired old formulaic one to me but if you were twelve I guess you'd love it.
Good, but no cigar. Must do better.

It's really important to remember a few things.

1) It's a pilot. A pilot is, more than anything, a proof of concept for the network. Rarely does it serve as a strong starting point for a series. In fact, I don't think the pilots for any of Whedon's shows were ever aired as part of the season. As we see, probably for good reason.

2) The show got REALLY strong numbers. Best series premiere ABC has ever had, I think. As a result, they'll probably get a little more license to do what they want with the show. In addition to that, Whedon know how to play the game with the network and standards & practices. He's spoken before about how he's learned to negotiate by writing in a few things he KNOWS the network/S&P will tell him to take out so that he can insist on keeping the one he wants.

3) Whedon doesn't usually "start strong". Most people agree that Buffy built up to a better show over the course of the first season and into the second. Firefly started somewhat strong, but it wasn't until a few episodes in that the show really picked up steam. Give it a few episodes and see what happens.

I was really underwhelmed, particularly with the acting and casting, but those three facts tempered my disappointment a little. If the show still feels hokey and "Disney" by episode 5 or so, I'll probably make the decision then as to whether or not it's worth watching. I'm just unwilling to judge ANYTHING based on a pilot.

Agreed, I understand its the pilot but hope the story pace is slowed down and they have a couple of cross episode arcs that are independent of the future Marvel movies.

Plus, while I love the Cap.... don't want to see a campy cameo of him or any of the other Avengers unless the plot supports their appearance.

I thought it was a fun watch. Really excited to see Extremis being used, I had a feeling they might use it as an easy way to introduce characters / heroes / villains. Looking forward to seeing more.

I thought it was pretty decent. I think it has a fair amount of potential so I'll keep watching it. I really liked at the references to the other movies. I was surprised to hear about Extremis.

Why would they bring back a character that they already killed off just to kill him off again? Sorry, but I don't think it's gonna happen...at least not for a few seasons.
