Martin‘s Deago Millennium Falcon - First Airbrushed Model

Right, the original model also only had a white plastic plate. The deagostini one is like a mix of both.

The paragrafix grill would have another Backlight. Good idea but I don‘t know, I think even if I would paint if black the light would be visible I guess?

A couple of coats I think you would have enough opacity but it's up to you and what you want to spend and achieve. I think the paragrafix grill looks great. Some nice 3d printed ones on shapeways to. Im all for upgrade bits!
Was just suggesting some different options is all.
Cheers,
Josh

Bottom is finished!

Thank You!

Here once again the Top. Brightened some spots a little bit but think it is mostly finished now. Perhaps I could have done a slightly better job with my new Airbrush but you also can't compare the top and the bottom, seems like 2 different models even on the original model, with different techniques and colours. I don't know if I will paint another model in the next years :)

Awesome!
I had a solid 20hrs painting my 1/72 so Im thinking was just as time consuming if not worse at 32".
You've made a fantastic job of it.

I would say the Bottom took 50 hours and the top at least 150 hours, half the time repainting things I didn't like in the first place and learning how to handle the Airbrush. The other half 70% of it I was still struggling with the Airbrush. I didn't know it can be that easy with another one. And studying the Model and the reference pics and every little detail took another 100 hours. Building it 100 hours at least. So, I wasn't quick :D
Would be a lot faster the second time but I think I would do a 5 footer next time. Maybe in 5-10 years ;).

I also have an old X-Wing from MPC and other models, all unpainted and built when I was 13. But every model some parts are missing since I was a cool uncle and my nephews and nieces had fun with it :(

Thanks Stormy!

200 hours in painting??! Gee I wouldnt be running to do another either.
As for my 20 hours at 1/72 a lot of the detail is not transferable from the 32" model so that makes it easier. Also I'm a trade qualified spraypainter so masking and using an airbrush is really second nature to me so I think I had a lot of advantages you didn't.
There's so much time spent though in the finer detailings of this though.

You really have achieved a stand up job here and it doesnt matter how long it took, you achieved the ultimate goal of reproduce a high quality reproduction of the Millennium Falcon. An effort to be proud of.
Cheers,
Josh

Thank you for your kind words!

Painted the rear a little blue but on the picture it is much more blue than in real life. Opinions what is better?

I painted it a little bluer ;)

I repainted the rear area around the vents to get a smoother Airbrush look. I don‘t know if I matched the Base color, what do you think, how does it look?
Planning to finish it for good in 2 days.

Nicely done! And that's how the model is so nice job copying it. The only thing that stands out for me is the blue light coming through the gun wells?
Otherwise its a perfect job

If you want the streaking a bit softer I airbrushed a lighter streak then followed with weathering powders.

Thanks! The Blue light is in Reality white and is standard, there is an LED in the Gun well :)
